Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui deskripsi peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang diajar dengan menerapkan model problem based learning setting kelompok dan siswa yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran langsung. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Swasta Antam Pomalaa yang terdiri dari 4 kelas paralel dengan jumlah 100 siswa. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknikPurposive Sampling dan dipilih sampel sebanyak 2 kelas, kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dapat diperoleh bahwa: (1) Rata-rata peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang diajar dengan menerapakan model pembelajaran problem based learning setting kelompok mengalami peningkatan dengan kualitas sedang, (2) Rata-rata peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang diajar dengan menerapakan model pembelajaran problem based learning setting kelompok mengalami peningkatan dengan kualitas sedang, (3) Penerapan model pembelajaran problem based learning setting kelompok secara signifikan lebih baik daripada penerapan model pembelajaran langsung terhadap peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa kelas VIII SMP Swasta Antam Pomalaa dengan taraf kepercayaan 95%. The population in this study is all students of class VIII Private Junior High School Antam Pomalaa consist of 4 parallel classes with the number of 100 students. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique and 2 samples were chosen, experiment class and control class. Based on the result of data analysis, it can be concluded: (1) The average improvement ofstudents mathematical problem solving abilities taught by applying problem based learning group setting has improved with medium quality, (2) Average improvement of students mathematical problem solving ability which is taught by applying problem based learning group setting has improved with medium quality, (3) Application of problem based learning group setting significantly better than applying direct learning model to improvement of problem solving ability mathematic student class VIII Private Junior High School Antam Pomalaa with 95% confidence level..
