This study aimed at figuring out the increase of student thinking skills through the preparation of questions. The population of the research was all of four-semester students of Biology Department of Teacher Training and Education (Tarbiyah) Faculty of IAIN Ar-Raniry in academic year 2012/2013. The sample then selected 29 students. The method used was experimental research. The researcher taught by using Questioning Reading and Answering learning model. Students are asked to read the course topic and then prepare substantial questions from the reading. The assigned materials were Bryophyta and Pteridophyta. The test of thinking skill followed the rubric of knowledge dimensions and cognitive process dimensions of Anderson and Karthwohl. The results showed an increase in thinking ability of students toward the higher level thinking ability. Thus the application of the Reading Questioning and Answering model can improve thinking ability of students in Botany Cryptogamae course.
Abstract. Djufri, Wardiah, Muchlisin ZA. 2016. Plants diversity of the deforested peat-swamp forest of Tripa,. Tripa peat swamp forest has been degraded due to human perturbation and resulted in decreasing the plant diversity. Currently, no report on plant diversity from this region in another hand the degradation is occurring continuously. Hence, the purpose of the present study was to evaluate the plants diversity of the Tripa peat swamp forest in Aceh Barat District, Indonesia. A quadratic method was employed in this study. Determination of the square area was carried out based on the curve of minimum area. The result showed that there were 41 species of herbs with diversity index ranging from 1.8785 to 2.4180 classified as low to moderate categories. A total of seven species of shrubs and 24 species of trees were found at the locations with diversity index (H') ranging from 1.5186 to 1.7496 and 2.1713 to 2.9133 respectively, indicating the diversity of shrubs was in a low category, while the diversity of tress was in the moderate level. It is concluded that the diversity index of herbs and shrubs were in a low category while the tree groups were in the medium category. According to the diversity index and direct observation of the Tripa peat swamp forest, this area had been degraded due to land conversion.
The objectives of this study were to inventory of plant species, determine rank taxonomy of species, and to give information quantitative value of taxa for vegetation analysis. About 5 hectare of the Tahura region is belong to Inhutani IV Company, was chosen as research population of this study. Two and half of hectare (2,5 ha) of this region used as a observed area. The data was collected by transec and quadratic method. The observed area it was took 10 transec with 250 m of long for observed stations. Each observed station was put six quadratic sampels systematically. Each quadratic sampels has a 2,5 m 2 of width. The parameter search is the total species. The result of this study indicated that there were 66 species of the plant including 29 family. Diversity index was between 2.3896-3.4696, an evenness index was between 1.7331 unto 211.5479. Based on this data, it can be conducted that every family of the plant has a few species. The important value is relatively low on all stations observed. So that there is no evident showing, any dominant species of the plant in observed area. Diversity index was categorized medium (> 2-4). Diversity index can be used as indicator were the vegetation succession. Evenness index of each station was relatively low, because sum of species were varied. Similarity index was below 50%. The differences might be the results of several factors including variety of physical environment, chemical content of soil, and interaction inter species in observed area.
