Fast, high-resolution volumetric imaging of voltage transients in excitable tissues such as the heart and brain has so far been impossible. We introduce a new imaging modality based on simultaneous illumination and parallel detection of multiple planes to map voltage transients in the intact zebrafish heart at KHz-rates in 3D. The unprecedented resolution of our method enabled the observation of novel dynamics through the zebrafish atrioventricular canal.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
