The collisional energy transfer probability P(AE) of polyatomic molecules in the gas phase is calculated for the strong-collision case. From it the average energy transferred per collision {AE) is evaluated. It is found that for the equilibrium systems which were investigated P(AE) is symmetric and it has a Gaussian form for a large colliding pair. As the temperature increases, {AE) increases as well. The value oí {AE) increases up to a limiting value as the reduced number of normal modes, s" increases. An analytical expression for P(AE) and {AE) is given for large polyatomic molecules with classical density of states.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
