Lawrence'o).Es ist weiter ersichtlich, da6 die Wirksamkeit der von uns gepriiften phenolischen Substanzen dann voll erhalten bleibt, wenn man eine Seifenzubereitung von 1 % Substanz und 99% Kernseife in den Verdiinnungstest einsetzt, man jedoch in Analogie zu den Ergebnissen mit der nichtionischen Substanz in Anwesenheit von 0,5 % Kernseife im NBhrboden geringere Aktivitaten findet. Dabei zeigt sich bei den Salicylsaureaniliden ein geringerer Abfall der Hemmwerte als durch die weiter in der Tabelle aufgefuhrten Verbindungen. 'O) Science 718, 274 [1953]; siehe auch C. A. After a general review of the most important antagonisms between magnesium and other cations, some special results from intensive pot experiments concerning the K/Mg antagonism are discussed. It is shown that it is only in soils absolutely deficient in Mg that the K/Mg antagonism has to be considered in respect to practical fertilisation. It is important to correct a deficiency in soil‐magnesium by application of magnesium fertiliser.

The influence of storage duration on the lipid and fatty acid content of potato tubers and on the concentration of volatile aroma substances in potato chips were studied. An increase in the unsaturated fatty acids of potato tubers was found during the first months of storage. The higher lipid content of early maturing varieties as compared with late maturing ones may be explained by decreased physiological maturity of these potatoes. Among the aroma substances the constituents hexanal, pentanal, and pentane are possible important indicators for the rancidity of potato chips. Relationships between differing storage conditions of chips and their reeping quality were indicated by volatile aroma substances, especially hexanal.
