Purpose This paper aims to examine the relationships between Islamic work ethic, deviant organizational behaviours and person-organization fit within the context of the hotels. Design/methodology/approach A survey was conducted with the participation of 243 employees working at five-star hotels operating in Marmaris, which is one of the popular destinations that attracts the most tourists in Turkey. The data obtained from the research is tested by implementing confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. Findings The results revealed that Islamic work ethic was negatively related to deviant organizational behaviour but positively related to person organization fit. On the other hand, no significant relationship was found between deviant organizational behaviour and person-organization fit. Originality/value This study presents to hotels practical and theoretical applications about employee behaviours and management practices.
Visiting friends and relatives (VFR) travel is a substantial segment of tourism globally. In many countries, VFR travel represents a large proportion of visitor movement. The size of the segment is often underestimated because official data only reveal VFR by purpose of visit or VFR by accommodation, contributing to the underestimation of the size of VFR travel. Similarly, there is a lack of research that considers the role of the VFR host in VFR travel which results in a lack of understanding. Clearly, the role of the host is critical in VFR travel and it is what centrally defines VFR. This study contributes to the research in VFR travel through providing research related to hosting VFRs. Of note, this study was undertaken in Turkey, which makes a significant contribution to scholarship given the lack of research that has been undertaken outside of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, which are the areas in which VFR travel research has dominated. This study determined the profiles and characteristics of 423 VFR travellers to Nevsehir, Turkey, and their hosts. Accordingly, this study provides a significant contribution to the scholarship of tourism by providing rich data on an area of tourism (hosting VFRs) that had to date, been overlooked.
In this study, it is aimed to investigate some bibliometric properties of the articles with the title of alternative tourism. In this context, the articles published between 2000-2018 were evaluated. For access to the articles, Higher Education Academic (YOK Academic) Search database was used, and 60 articles which were obtained through the keywords of alternative tourism were taken into consideration. The articles were examined based on some criteria such as the year of publishing, the journals where articles are published, the number of authors, the number of references, the number of keywords, the research method, the content, the institutions where the authors work. As a result of this evaluation, it was seen that most articles on alternative tourism were published in 2017 and most of the papers were written by two authors.
The aim of this study is to analyze relationship between work-family conflict and turnover intention in tourism researches. In this respect, following the literature research, 18 quantitative studies in this area, which were conducted between 2005-2019, have been analyzed with meta-analysis method. The effect size of studies, the analysis of heterogeneity, publication bias, and intervening variable have been studied with Comprehensive Meta-Analysis v2.0 (CMA) statistics. The data obtained from the study have been interpreted within fixed effects model. As a result of the meta-analysis, it was found that the studies included in this research were homogeneous, and therefore, there was a moderate positive relationship between the effect sizes under the fixed effects model, the work-family conflict, and the turnover intention. The study is considered to be important because it synthesizes the experimental studies that examine relationship between work-family conflict and turnover intention.
