Water pollution in rivers is still a crucial problem for the countries that use river water as the primary water source. This study aimed to determine the water quality of the Musi river and the content of heavy metals in water, sediment and mussels as well as to predict the water quality of the Musi river in the next five years. The water samples were taken from 18 stations (sampling points) from upstream to downstream to be checked physically, chemically and biologically. Prediction of the river water quality was made using the QUAL2Kw software. The research results show that the Musi River water is categorized as lightly polluted with concentrations of TSS and DO that have passed the threshold. The heavy metals in river water, such as Pb and Cr have also passed the quality standard. The Fe, Mn, and Zn concentrations are pretty high in the sediment. In turn, in mussels, the metals measured were Fe, Cu, and Zn. The prediction results reveal that several values of the river quality parameters will pass the threshold value with the same pattern tendency from each station.
Yellow fever is a viral infection caused by yellow fever virus and is spread by the bite of an infected female mosquito (Aedes and Haemogogus species). The evolutionary origin of yellow fever lies in Africa, with transmission of the disease from nonhuman primates to human. Yellow fever remains a disease of significant public health importance. The earliest outbreak of yellow fever in Nigeria was reported in Lagos in 1864 with subsequent regular outbreaks reported until 1996 following which Nigeria has been responding to successive outbreaks. Since 15 th September 2017, when the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) officially notified a confirmed case of yellow fever in Kwara state to WHO as per the International Health Regulations (2005). Currently the country has been responding to successive yellow fever outbreaks over a wide geographic area. As such, four-year (2018-2021) national yellow fever Preventive Mass Vaccination Campaign (PMVC) plan, supported by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) and partners, is currently being implemented to cover all states in the country. By 2025, it is anticipated that all states in Nigeria will have conducted PMVC activities to protect at-risk populations against yellow fever.
Land subsidence is a problem that often occurs in lowland areas. The impact of land subsidence causes losses in the economic, physical, ecological and social aspects. The impact of land subsidence could be felt directly and indirectly by the people, so an evaluation of the most frequent (dominant) impacts needs to be done. One method that could be use for assesment using AHP, using pairwise comparisons can be obtained the most frequent (dominant) land subsidence impact. From the results of the study indicate that the direct impact due to land subsidence (weight 0.608)) is more dominant than the indirect impact (0.392). Based on the value of each parameter, three dominant land subsidence impacts are infrastructure damage with a value of 0.387, an increase in the cost of infrastructure construction and maintenance with a value of 0.193 and a flood of 0.129. The results of observations and ground checking at the Tanjung Api-Api area, there was damage to several floors of residents' homes, damage to road and tilt of trees which were damaged in the economic field was the most dominant impact. While floods and seawater intrusion are not dominant in this area because the area is located in the tidal area.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
