The study determined the relationship between ICT utilisation by Business Education Lecturers and Students and the teaching -learning of Business Education in tertiary institutions in Cross River State. The survey research design was adopted. The population comprises Business Education lecturers and Students totaling 985 on which 25 lecturers and 75 students were sampled for the study using stratified random sampling technique. Two sets of questionnaires were administered on the respondents after validation and reliability test. The reliability indices were 0.96 and 0.98 for ICTULSBEQ and TLBEQ respectively using Cronbach Alpha Reliability technique. The findings of the study show that ICT utilisation by lecturers and students has a significant positive relationship with teaching and learning of Business Education in tertiary institution. Based on the findings it is concluded that ICT utilisation if fully utilised will fill the skill gap among graduates of tertiary institutions. Based on the conclusion drawn it is recommended that tertiary institutions should equip their schools with ICT facilities while lecturers and students should make effort to own Personal Computers, internet enabled mobile phones among others, and equally utilize same for teaching and learning.
This chapter studies diverse issues concerning business management education in the African context such as business school management within the university system, leadership qualities required from the school administrators, the role of government and voluntary agencies, academic operational issues, curriculum development, academic program evaluation, market value of graduates, the role of information technology, culture and education, and ethical issues in business schools. The chapter concludes that given all those technological development and the availability of information via multiple sources the role of faculty and faculty development is essential and should be an important component of the school strategic management.
Africa's economy, an emerging economy is gradually being re-positioned in the global economy as a focus of investment. Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) have helped to shape the economy of Africa. An overview of Africa's economy was examined; top 20 Africa's largest economies were highlighted; major sectors perceived as paths to growth of Africa's economy were examined – Agriculture, Banking, Consumer goods, infrastructure, mining, oil and gas, and telecommunications. The chapter also enunciated the concept, ‘diversified economy' in relation to oil exporters, the transition economies and the pre-transition economies. It is therefore concluded that Multinational Enterprises will continue to contribute to the growth of Africa's economy, especially as more indigenous enterprises are being launched by African countries. It is therefore recommended that African countries should continue to diversify her economy to take advantage of large labor potential and natural resources endowment.
This study determined the skill competence for managing businesses among fresh graduates of business education and achieved three objectives, answered three research questions and tested three null hypotheses. Descriptive survey design was used and the study was conducted in Calabar -Nigeria with a population of 61 fresh graduates and a sample of 60 respondents. Questionnaire generated data analysed using the dependent t-test statistical analysis. Findings are that there is no significant influence of record-keeping, accounting and marketing on the management of small-scale businesses among business education graduates in Calabar. Based on the findings of this study, the following conclusions are drawn: Recordkeeping and accounting skills are very highly needed; marketing skill is lowly needed in the management of small-scale businesses among Business Education graduates in Calabar. It is further concluded that record-keeping skill; marketing skill; and accounting skills have no significant influence on the management of small-scale businesses among Business Education graduates in Calabar. The recommendations made from the conclusion are that: Record-keeping skills are practically demonstrated by business education undergraduates to help them in the management of small-scale businesses on graduation; marketing skills be practically demonstrated by business education undergraduates to help them in the management of smallscale businesses on graduation; accounting skills are practically demonstrated by business education undergraduates to help them in the management of small-scale businesses on graduation.
