Preparation and Characterization of Reactive Adsorbents -Analysis of the Reaction ProcessThe removal of undesired gases can be realized by a dry separation through a packed bed of particulate adsorbents. Shaped solids containing potassium permanganate as active component were prepared by extrusion and used for the deposition of the model pollutant H 2 S. The extrudates were characterized with respect to the mechanical stability and the separation efficiency by breakthrough curves. These experiments show a breakthrough of the extrudate bed before the adsorbents have reacted completely. Apparently, the gas only slowly intrudes into the extrudate, so the reaction takes place mainly near the outer surface.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
