A new power flow for DC grids is presented in this paper. With this new methodology to have more than one node where the voltages are known is possible, in contrast to old methods where there was a node where the voltage was specified (the slack bus). A complete proof is given, which guarantees the unique existence of solutions. This new algorithm could be easily adapted for AC systems with the explained philosophy in this paper. Some simulations are tested in order to show the power of this new tool. In addition, a detailed study of the variation of the power and voltages when these variables change is shown.
Even though many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) realize the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for their sustainable business development, they face difficulties when individually pursuing this target. This paper aims to provide cluster-based SMEs with a framework to facilitate the uptake of the SDGs through a cluster network model. By focusing on the case study of a furniture production Cluster Management Organization (CMO Habic a network-based approach to sustainability management is analyzed in order to integrate the SDGs framework into SMEs’ everyday language and day-to-day operations. Through a cluster model approach, industry-specific sustainability material issues are tackled jointly and with the aim of applying a common solution to a similar challenge, Lehi-ODS, an online sustainability management tool for SME self-evaluation, has been developed wherein the participating SMEs can gain an overarching knowledge about the UN 2030 Agenda, assess their own alignment with the SDGs and with respect to that of their peers, and prioritize initiatives to correctly deliver them. The main conclusion derived from the paper is that a CMO is deemed to be a valuable driver in identifying common sector-specific challenges of corporate sustainability and in addressing collectively the question of contributing to the SDGs.
The upcoming smart grid paradigm brings a new approach for distribution grid management, regarding new technical features for DSO and new energy services to be provided to final customers. On the one hand these technical features and energy services become possible a more efficient management of distribution grid aiming at a reduction of grid investment and operational cost, not only in investment but also in operation and management. On the other hand these new services for clients may become possible an increase on energy efficiency and energy cost reduction for clients, with direct impact in environmental goals worldwide. This paper describes a use case developed under SENSIBLE Project to be implemented in the Portuguese Demonstrator-Évora, where low voltage (LV) clients provide flexibility through the usage of energy storage and energy management technologies, both in regulated and market environment, optimizing customers' energy consumption and minimizing its cost, and, simultaneously, providing grid services when grid technical constraints occur with indirect impact in grid investment costs. The present contribution analyses the Judgment of the Spanish Supreme Court of 17 July 2018. This judgment given by its Contentious-Administrative Chamber is thoroughly considered along the commentary, explaining the factual and procedural background of Ángela González's claim consisting of the request of a compensation for the dramatic murder of her daughter by her ex-partner in a gender-violence context. Accordingly, after the exhaustion of local remedies, the appellant cleverly brought her claim before the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, which adopted a decision recommending Spain to indemnify her for the damages suffered. Subsequently, on the basis of this favorable decision, the appellant sought a compensation for the State liability due to an abnormal functioning of the Administration of Justice, whose denial was appealed before the Supreme Court. Finally, the Supreme Court considered the CEDAW's decision as a "valid premise" to file a request of State liability and notably declared such decision as "legally binding/obligatory" for Spain, although the CEDAW's decisions have not that nature according to its Convention and Optional Protocol. As a result, the Supreme Court adjudged an economic reparation for the claimant and affirmed that Spain breached its international obligations. In brief, the commentary concludes with some reflections on the future implications that this arguable judgment of the Supreme Court may entail in relation to the international obligations of the State and the domestic enforcement of the decisions adopted by the CEDAW and by other UN treaty bodies analogously.
