In today’s changing and competitive environment, innovation is crucial for the survival of any business in the marketplace. Globalization has brought both opportunities and challenges for companies in emerging economies. The intense competitive environment is compelling these companies to innovate, so as to sustain and survive. That is why the emerging market economies are transforming into centers of innovation. These innovations associate with low-cost products like health care devices, wind power, micro finance, electric cars and many more. Multinational companies used to launch new products in the developed world and later on sell the stripped-down version of products to developing parts of the world. Since a few years ago this proces is changing its direction in an opposite way. Innovations initially launched in developing countries are introduced to advanced countries (reverse innovations). This kind of actions make the managers to change the management models of their companies and deal with different intercultural aspects. The aim of this article is to present the reverse innovation idea and typology and identify the most important intercultural aspects in their management.
Innovation is very important for the development of economies, competitiveness of companies and sustainable growth of countries and regions. However, sometimes it occurs irresponsible. Medicines cause people die, internet is a kind of threat for the data protection, some environmental innovation don't protect the environment. All these cases force us to think in terms of responsible innovation creation and implementation. The aim of this article is to present the emerging concept of responsible innovation and encourage for the discussion and research in these terms.
Internacjonalizacja innowacyjnych produktów przez małe i średnie przedsiębiorstwa-korzyści i ryzyko Streszczenie: innowacje i nowe technologie to pojęcia nierozerwalnie związane z ochroną własności intelektualnej. Komponent własności intelektualnej powoduje, że mówiąc o ich internacjonalizacji pewne działania mogą się różnić w porównaniu z internacjonalizacją tradycyjnych produktów czy usług, są też obarczone większym ryzykiem. Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja podobieństw i różnic we wprowadzaniu przez MSP innowacyjnych produktów na rynki międzynarodowe, w odniesieniu do produktów tradycyjnych, oraz korzyści i ryzyk jakie się z tym wiążą. Zaprezentowany zostanie także przykład przedsiębiorstwa, któremu mimo wykorzystania zaawansowanych technologii w oferowanych produktach, wielu starań w kierunku ich wprowadzania na rynek międzynarodowy, pozyskania środków finansowych na rozwój, nie udało się zrealizować strategii internacjonalizacji. Słowa kluczowe: korzyści z eksportu, ochrona własności intelektualnej, ryzyko internacjonalizacji.
Research method-Desk research and the analysis of available literature. The sources of data used were, among others: European Patent Office, Central Statistical Office, IMD World Competitiveness Centre and High Level Expert Group reports as well as the reports and data of the European Commission. KETs' analysis in Poland was conducted based on the published CSO data. The article presents selected variables characterising the activity of enterprises operating in the field of biotechnology and nanotechnology, and the analyses of research and development activities as part of the executive sectors in both of the analysed fields. In addition, data on the number of registered patents in Poland and the share of the number of registered patents in the field of biotechnology in relation to their total number were presented. Results-The article covers topics connected with the measurement of KETs' competitiveness, describes the situation of KETs in Europe and in Poland, not being a very innovative EU country. Originality /value-The problem of KETs and their importance for the EU and its members' sustainable development is recognized in a limited scope. There is not much literature on the topic. There is no strategy for KETs at the national level in Poland.
