Heterotopic pregnancy occurs in up to 1% of pregnancies after IVF and embryo transfer. A case of a 35-year-old woman undergoing IVF treatment who had had previous laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy due to hydrosalpinges is presented. She had had two heterotopic pregnancies in both tubal stumps in consecutive pregnancies achieved by IVF. The intrauterine pregnancies ended in spontaneous abortions. The possibility of a heterotopic pregnancy needs to be considered when more than one embryo has been transferred in a cycle, especially when an inappropriately high serum β-human chorionic gonadotrophin concentration is associated with an ultrasound finding of singleton intrauterine pregnancy.
RR 0.70, 95% CI 0.60-0.80) where the decreased risk was mainly observed for cesarean delivery during labor (5.9% vs. 13.3%, RR 0.42, 95% CI 0.33-0.53). Post bariatric surgery women had reduced risks of induction of labor (20.0% vs. 27.7%, RR 0.71, 95% CI 0.62-0.81), postterm pregnancy (4.2% vs. 10.3%, RR 0.40, 95% CI 0.30-0.53), obstetric anal sphincter injury (1.3% vs. 2.2%, RR 0.58, 95% CI 0.32-0.98), postpartum hemorrhage (4.6% vs. 8.0%, RR 0.58, 95% CI 0.44-0.76) and 5-min Apgar score <7 (0.42% vs. 1.76%, RR 0.22, 95% CI 0.08-0.51). CONCLUSION: Bariatric surgery was associated with reduced risk for adverse delivery outcomes. Given the magnitude of the observed effects; bariatric surgery may be an important procedure for improving delivery outcome in obese women. However, previous research have reported increased complication risks for the infant including SGA and preterm birth that has to be taken into consideration in providing information to women and caregivers.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
