This study aims to develop Islamic text-based reading materials with a Genre-Based Approach as teaching materials for compulsory subjects for Islamic University students. The study used a Research and Development approach, where the data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. Qualitative data were analyzed using interactive analysis and quantitative data analysis used percentages. The research participants consisted of lecturers and 50 students from the Islamic Education Department. The data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The result of this study indicated that designing Islamic text-based reading teaching materials with a genre-based approach is exceedingly needed. The content of the book consists of the following components: cover, preface, table of content, explanation text, recount text, descriptive text, narrative text, discussion text, hortatory text, news item text, references, and about the writer. Furthermore, the student's responses to the teaching materials designed were 0% disagreed, 13% less agreed, 52% agreed, and 35% strongly agreed. The average score is 3.22 and, if converted on a table with a scale of 4, includes it in a very good category. Therefore, an Islamic text-based reading material with a genre-based approach is worth applying by the students of the Islamic Education Department.
The purpose of this research was to implement the skimming technique and analyze its influence in the student comprehending reading texts at the eleventh grade (XI TKJ) of SMK N 3 Metro. In this research the researcher gave pretest to know the students’ ability in understanding reading texts and posttest to know the result of the students’s ability in reading text after giving the skimming technique.This research was quantitative research which had been conducted in SMK N 3 Metro at the class XI TKJ and followed by 70 students as the sample. The tehnique sampling was cluster random sampling. In collectting the data the researcher used test. The researcher used the test to get the data of student’s reading comprehension through the questions which consisted of 30 multiple choices about the reading text. This test was used to figure out whether the skimming technique was suitable and could be used by the students in comprehending the reading texts. The analysis which was used by the researcher was t-test. Finally, the data indicates that t observed = 23.945 is higher than t table = 2.99. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It means that the skimming technique influences the students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh graders of SMK N 3 Metro in the academic year of 2010/2011.
The aim of this study is to develop an English grammar practice book model based on multicultural values as teaching materials for compulsory subjects of the university in Indonesia. This research-based on Research and Development approach, which is adopted from Gall, Gall, and Borg (2003). The data were collected through interviews and questionnaires. While qualitative data were analyzed using an interactive analysis and quantitative data analysis used percentages. The research participants consisted of lecturers and students at two universities in Indonesia. The findings showed that 1) the conceptual model of the English grammar practice book is applicable and contextual which presents the latest issues in accordance with the issue of Indonesian multicultural values. 2) The content of an English grammar practice book constitutes the following components: chapter titles, introductions, material presentation and elaboration of multicultural values, competence performances, summaries, reflections, variation exercise. It is suggested that the textbook model more help in developing multicultural competencies students in communication with other people from different backgrounds through using English as an international language.
Pada era digital saat ini pendidik tidak hanya dituntut untuk mampu menyusun instrumen evaluasi yang berkulitas baik tetapi juga mampu memanfaatkan teknologi yang ada..Tujuan dari dialaksanakan kegiatan pendampingan penyusunan instrument evaluasi berbassis digital bagi guru sebagai peningkatan mutu pembelajaran adalah agar guru memiliki pengetahuan tentang penyusunan instrumen evaluasi berbasis digital, guru memiliki pengetahuan aplikasi apa saja yang dapat digunakan untuk membuat intrumen evaluasi pembelajaran bagi peserta didik dan guru mempunyai keterampilan dalam membuat instrumen evaluasi yang menarik menggunakan aplikasi yang sesuai dengan perkembangan peserta didik serta hasil belajar peserta didik dapat diukur dengan baik, kemudian dapat dilakukan remedial bagi siswa yang membutuhkan.Strategi yang digunakan pada kegiatan riset pengabdian ini adalah penggunakan pendekatan Participatory Action Research (PAR). Langkah-langkah yang dilakukan pada kegiatan pengabdian ini meliputi (1) Melakukan pendekatan kepada guru SMK Khalifah Bangsa, yaitu melakukan wawancara terhadap kebutuhan guru dalam proses evaluasi pembelajaran, (2) Melakukan kajian silabus, (3) Membuat desain intrumen evaluasi pembelajaran berbasis digital, (4) Pelaksanaan pendampingan, yaitu tahap inti dari seluruh rangkain kegiatan pengabdian ini.
