The Campo de Calatrava Volcanic Region is located in Central Spain (Ciudad Real province, Castilla-La Mancha) where some eruptions of different intensity and spatial location took place throughout a period of more than 8 million years. As a result, more than 360 volcanic edifices spread over 5000 km2. Eruptions of this volcanic system were derived from alkaline magmas with events of low explosivity (Hawaiian and Strombolian). These events are characterized by three different manifestations: the emission of pyroclasts (cinder and spatter cones) and lava flows; some hydromagmatic events, which lead to the formation of wide craters (maars) and pyroclastic flows; and remnant volcanic activity related to gas emission (CO2), hot springs (hervideros) and carbonic water fountains (fuentes agrias). The methods used for this study are based on analytical studies of geography, geomorphology and geoheritage to identify volcanoes and their resources and attractions linked to the historical-cultural heritage. These volcanoes are a potential economic resource and attraction for the promotion of volcano tourism (geotourism), and they are the basis for achieving a UNESCO Global Geopark Project, as a sustainable territorial and economic management model, to be part of the international networks of conservation and protection of nature and, especially, that of volcanoes.
IntroductionAn international alert from Becton Dickinson (BD) has noted the possibility of interaction between several molecules and some syringes. The Centralized IntraVenous Additives Service of the institution was using 3 mL BD syringes to store ketamine HCl. This study evaluated the interaction between ketamine and these syringes.MethodA batch of BD syringes produced in Europe and left in quarantine from the day of the international alert has been tested at 22, 29, 36, 43 and 50 days of storage at room temperature. At each time, the pH of the solutions was measured. The solutions were inspected visually and by microscope, and spectrophotometric measurements were performed. The concentrations were measured by a validated ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector.ResultsNeither physical change nor pH modification was observed during the study. According to a lower limit of the 95% unilateral CI on the mean >90% of the theoretical concentration, the solutions remain stable for at least 50 days.ConclusionIn our study conditions, ketamine can be stored for at least 50 days without risk of sorption with syringes.
The Campo de Calatrava Volcanic Region is the largest volcanic field in the Iberian Peninsula and presents a complex volcanic history, with more than 360 monogenetic basaltic volcanoes developed in effusive, Strombolian, and hydromagmatic eruptions. The large number of scoria cones, compared to the other existing types of volcanic morphologies, indicates that these landforms represent the most common eruptive events that occurred during Calatrava’s geological past. In this work, a morphometric analysis of the scoria cones was carried out, based on statistical analysis of the main morphological parameters of these volcanoes (height, cone width, crater width, crater depth, slope, area, etc.). The results were used to identify the most frequent scoria cone by means of statistical analysis of its main morphological features. To do this, a methodology based on statistical correlations of the morphological and morphometric parameters that best define the morphology of these volcanoes was applied. The number of cones and their distribution correspond to platform volcanic fields. The most frequent identified monogenetic volcano corresponds to a scoria cone developed in Strombolian dynamics with lava flows, with mean dimensions of 36.54 m height, 0.008113 km3 volume and an area of 0.454 km2.
