The success of teaching depends to a large extent on the way teachers talk and interactions that occur between teachersand students. The happening of interaction is affected directly by ways of teacher talk. This study entitles “Classroom InteractionAnalysis in the EFL Speaking Class” aimed at analyzing the categories of teacher talk, student talk and classroom interaction typesused during EFL speaking class. The research employed a qualitative design and applied a case study. Subjects of the research werean English teacher and 35 students at the second semester at English Department of IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang. The data weregained through naturalistic observation and document analysis. The data were analyzed by using Foreign Language Interaction(FLINT) system. The findings revealed that both teacher and students applied all categories of talk as mentioned in FLINT systemand classroom interaction types.
Abstract-The development of the global tourism industry rapidly, make the importance of English ability for specific fields of work, including hotel management. For preparing the graduates, Hotel Management Study Program UNP provides English Profession 1, 2, and 3 subject. Unfortunately, implementation does not give significant contribution in improving graduates' English ability. Its learning materials do not fulfill the students' needs, so that learning materials development was carried out through research and development. The research used ADDIE model that stands for the phases of Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluation. The data was obtained through conducting interview and spreading questionnaires to students, lecturers, head department, three hotels' managers, alumni, and experts. Need analysis found English skill, teaching methodology, new topics and language focus which are appropriate for the students. The content was designed and developed based on the students needs. This developed learning material has been assessed as valid and recommended by experts through validation judgment. Salah satu tujuan dari Merdeka balajar dalam perguruang tingga adalah melahirkan lulusan yang memiliki daya saing dalam skala Internasional. Tadris Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Tarbiyah UIN Imam Bonjol Padang merupakan Program Studi yang diharapkan mampu melahirkan tamatan yang memiliki kopetisi global dan kreativitas untuk bersaing didunia kerja setelah menamatkan pendidikan. Dengan adanya pencanangan Merdeka Belajar oleh mentri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan, sebagai respon perkembangan zaman yang sudah diwarnai oleh perkembangaan teknologi dalam bentuk digitalisasi, maka perubahan permintaan dan kebutuhan masyarakat akan lulusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris juga berkembang. Tidak hanya untuk menjadi guru dikelas para tamatan Program Studi ini diharapkan mampu menjadi para professional d pada bidang pengajaran bahasa Inggris dengan memanfaatkan ketersediaan teknologi dan sumberdaya lainnya seperti menjadi erterpreneur pembelajaran bahasa Inggris Online, kursus Online, ELT Aplication Creator dan lain -lain. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the Think-Pair-Share strategy towards English teaching and learning. This research used a meta-analysis study. The technique of collecting data was coding datasheets. The researcher has to code the information of the research articles of journals about using the Think-Pair-Share strategy in English teaching and learning. The measurement of effect size analyzed the data. The research findings revealed that the overall effect size of the Think-Pair-Share strategy in English teaching and learning was calculated at 1.41 or in the category of large effect. The Think-Pair-Share is an influential and effective language teaching strategy in terms of the region in Indonesia, with an effect size of 1.67 in Sumatra, 1.2 in Java, and 1.18 in Sulawesi. Besides, based on educational level, the effect size is 1.25 in Junior High School, 1.61 in Senior High School, and 0.98 in university. Meanwhile, the effect size on students' English skills is 1.84 in speaking, 1.67 in reading, and 0.9 in writing. It can be concluded that the Think-Pair-Share strategy is effective to apply in English teaching and learning because it has a high impact in any educational level and region and enhances students' English skills in many aspects. Therefore, it is recommended that English teachers and curriculum designers implement and develop a Think-Pair-share strategy in the ELT classroom to enhance students’ English language skills.
The ability to master a foreign language is a student's need to compete at the international level. For this reason, universities are required to provide opportunities for lecturers to choose a lecturer in teaching English at tertiary institutions. In several studies it was found that students of Islamic Higher Education have the motivation and desire students who are strong enough to learn foreign languages but only a small proportion of them successfully master both international languages simultaneously (Arabic and English). The ESP (Materials, Methods and Needs Analysis) approach to the English Subject This is because English in tertiary institutions is complex and requires efforts that also involve many parties. The learning process in this skill requires a structured process and adequate time. Based on cognitive theory in learning, Merdeka Belajar provides the widest opportunity for students to control and carry out the learning process by involving metacognitive, motivational, and attitudinal aspects in achieving learning goals. For this reason, an ESP product is needed which aims to help students implement an independent learning system because one form of implementing this approach is the creation and selection of material methods based on student needs (limitations, desires, and interests).
