The treatment of patients with PMC should be no different from the treatment of patients with PTC, and thyroidectomy followed by radioiodine therapy may be a possible option for treatment of papillary microcarcinoma.
Angiosarcomas are uncommon tumors and constitute less than 5% of all soft tissue sarcomas. They are aggressive tumors with poor prognosis, therefore, it is quite important to determine disease extension and detect local recurrence and/or distant metastases for appropriate therapy management. In this paper, we aimed to demonstrate the potential role of 1F18-FDG PET/CT imaging by reporting two cases with angiosarcoma.Conflict of interest:None declared.
A 57-year-old man with multiple myeloma had a rapidly enlarging mass in the right thyroid lobe for 6 months. Fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed, and cytologic examination revealed atypical plasma cells. One week later, the patient was referred for F-18 FDG imaging for further investigation and hyperactive foci on the right thyroid lobe were detected. We are reporting a case with extramedullary plasmacytoma of the thyroid detected on PET/CT scan.
High-dose In-111 octreotide can be safely administered in conjunction with somatostatin analogue in patients with disseminated NET and this treatment may help to stabilize the disease.
We did not find higher incidences of local recurrences, distant metastases or mortality rates compared to well differentiated thyroid carcinomas. HCC of the thyroid and well differentiated thyroid carcinomas have similar biological behaviour. Their treatment should be similar, including total or near-total thyroidectomy plus modified cervical node dissection when there is lymph node involvement. Radioactive iodine therapy and suppressive laevothyroxin therapy should follow.
