The paper discusses population, water use and protection in Sana River drainage area, situated in the northwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Geographic and hydrogeographic features have a strong influenceon the population of this area. Sustainable development policy presumes that sustainable water management is an integral part of spatial planning. That certainly encompasses water use and protection in the drainage area. Finally, the author expresses his opinion concerning the protected natural monuments and landscapes in the investigated area.
The paper deals with the annual mean amounts, the intensity and the probability of precipitation in the drainage area of the river Sana (in the northwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina). Generally, the Sana drainage area is a humid region. Thus, the annual precipitation measured in most of the meteorological stations clearly shows two maximums – in November and in June. Almost every station included in the research shows a continental pluviometric pattern, while more significant maritime influence is shown in the stations positioned in the west, the southeast and the south of the researched area. The monthly fluctuations in precipitation are considerable. The precipitation are most likely to occur during summer and spring, while the annual intensity of precipitation in nine considered stations is 8.06 l/m2.

Original Scientific Paper Izvorni znanstveni članak Proračun godišnje količine padalina u poriječju Sane primjenom Thiessenovih poligona Emir TemimovićU članku se razmatra proračun godišnje količine padalina u poriječju Sane (u sjeverozapadnom dijelu Bosne i Hercegovine) primjenom Thiessenovih poligona. Ključne riječi: poriječje Sane, metoda Thiessenovih poligona, padaline Estimate of Annual Precipitation Amount in the Sana River Drainage Basin by Use of Thiessen's PolygonsThe article considers estimate of annual precipitation amount in the Sana river drainage basin (in the northwest part of Bosnia and Herzegovina) by use of Thiessen's polygons. The drainage basin is basically a humid basin whereas a climatic type towards Köppen is Cfb, moderately warm and moisture slimate with warm summer (beech-tree climate). estimate of annual precipitation amount has been carried out for a standard period and it was 1148 mm.
The hot springs of the Bosna River represent a wide fault zone in which where six larger and several smaller karst springs can be found. The catchment area of the Bosna springs are presented by the mountainous massifs of Igman and Bjelašnica, which are built primarily from thick limestone deposits. At the foot of these massifs, in contact with the Sarajevo field which represents the hydrogeological barrier, the specific hot spring zone is formed. Water in this area occurs in the shape of hot springs, surface watercourses and underground thermal mineral waters. The Bosna hot springs have been under protection since 2006 when it was pronounced the monument of nature "Vrelo Bosne". The monument of nature is located in the Sarajevo Canton and it is under the protection of "PI Protected Natural Areas of the Sarajevo Canton" and it covers an area of 603 ha. The hot springs of the Bosna river is not the only monument of nature that's under protection of the canton, there are other protected monuments of nature like the "Skakavac" waterfall and the three protected landscapes: "Bijambare", "Trebević" and "Bentbaša". This area is also the main drinkable water resource for the city of Sarajevo (Bačevo water source) and it is a famous excursion site. Since 2014, entrance to the protected area has been charged and about 139,000 visitors were recorded in that same year. Since then, the number of visitors has been rapidly increasing and in 2016 there were over 190,000 visitors registered. The exploration area meets all planned goals of protection and sustainable development of protected areas in Sarajevo Canton and it represents an extremely positive example of sustainable tourism in protected areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
