This study shows that the combined administration of vitamins B(1) and B(6) to diabetic nephropathy patients causes a decrease in DNA glycation in leukocytes. Importantly the administration of vitamin B(6) alone did not have such an effect. To our knowledge, these are the first reported findings related to glycation of leukocyte nuclear DNA in diabetic nephropathy.
Aim: Noise pollution is one of the important problems among the environmental pollution. In this present study we tried to show that the problem of noise at hospital is still exceeding and investigate the sources of noise that annoyed the patients mostly. We measured the sound levels randomly selected in wards and asked the patients the causes of the noise annoying the patients mostly. Material and Methods:Noise level were measured during August 2009 by Testo 816 Sound Lever Meter in Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty. Total of the readings were taken in the day time between 09.00 am and 15.00 pm with three minutes intervals Results: Daily sound level is differing between 45 dBA and 61 dBA. Measured sound level at the beginning time was significantly lower in Neurology and Otorhinolaryngology wards compare to others. During the day time maximum Leq was observed in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation ward (61 dBA). Telephone bells and conversations, Talking in corridors and water running from faucet declared as a most frequent of noise source by the patients. Conclusion: Activities of medical and non-medical staff are the common source of noise which suggests the noise pollution is mostly manmade. In order to solve the noise problem at hospitals there is great need to staff education, administrative rules and may be first of all national guidelines for hospital noise. Many treatment methods are used to remove iron and manganese from water. Aeration and membrane filtration are two of these methods. In this study, Fe2+ and Mn2+ removal by aeration with different catalysts and instead of simple membrane filtration applied in other studies, the aerated-submerged membrane systems were evaluated separately. When Fe(OH)3 was applied in the aeration step and complete oxidation of Fe2+ was obtained after 27 min, while complete Mn2+ oxidation was obtained in 76 min. However, when MnO2 was applied in the aeration step, complete oxidation of Fe2+ and Mn2+ was relatively slow (36 and 110 min, respectively). According to the results obtained from the aerated membrane system, Fe2+ and Mn2+ removal were extended by Fe(OH)3 via adsorption/surface oxidation. It is clearly shown from the flux, resistance results, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FT/IR) spectroscopy observation that manganese oxides were deposited mainly in membrane pores forming membrane fouling by small flocs, while iron oxide particles were deposited on the membrane surface. Although the flux performance of PT PES membrane was higher than HF PP membrane, fouling resistance of HF PP membrane was higher than PT PES.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
