BACKGROUND: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic could increase stress which will impact the student’s achievement during the pandemic situation. AIM: The purpose of the study was to analyze stress among Indonesian nursing students’ after giving the interventions of behavioral activation (BA), mindfulness exercises (ME), and loving-kindness meditation exercise (LKME) during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a one-group pre-test-post-test design. Data collection has been conducted in 4 weeks’ period on April–May 2021 using consecutive sampling. The sample of this study was 83 respondents in Level II of Indonesian nursing students at Stikes Kesdam IV/Diponegoro who have fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The instrument used was the Perceived Stress Scale. RESULTS: The majority of respondents are women, namely, 64 respondents (77.1%). After being given the intervention of BA, ME, and LKME, respondents decreased their stress with a mean of 16.66 became 14.76. The dependent t-test showed that the p value was 0.000 (p < 0.05), which means that there was a significance difference in stress pre- and post-intervention. The mean difference was 1.90 and the paired difference t-test was 0.000 (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: BA, MEs, and LKME are recommended as stress coping mechanisms for Indonesian nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Abstract. The increase in physiological response may lengthen ischemic duration, cause recurrent stroke risk and worsen the complication of AIS (Acute Ischemic Stroke) attack which results in impairment and death. The identification of AIS patients with the risk of increasing physiological response is essential during treatments in hospitals. Some of the factors related to the increase of physiological response had been identified, yet the factors that include the intervention remain unknown. The factors are leukocyte, blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, temperature, onset, coexisting disease, gender, and Benson’s relaxation response. This observational analysis research uses cross-sectional design. The total number of subjects are 42 AIS patients that include 21 respondents in control group and 21 respondents in intervention group. The results of the study show that the level of Leukocyte p= 0.790; Blood Glucose p= 0.565; Total Cholesterol p= 0.982; Triglyceride p= 0.782; Temperature p= 0.50; Onset p= 0.028; Coexisting Disease p= 0.345; Sex p= 0.707; Benson’s Relaxation Response p= 0.019. Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that Onset and Benson’s Relaxation Response are significant factors in physiological response of AIS patients.
The main function of the kidneys under normal conditions is to regulate fluids and electrolytes and the acid-base composition of body fluids, remove metabolic wastes that are no longer needed by the body, regulate blood pressure and hormonal function. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is the final stage of chronic kidney failure where GFR <15 ml/min/1.73m2 so that the body fails to maintain metabolism and fluid and electrolyte balance, causing uremia, namely retention of urea and other nitrogenous wastes in the blood (Smeltzer et al. al, 2008; National Kidney Foundation in Kallenbach, et al, 2005). With the increasingly real decline in kidney function or worsening of symptoms of uremia, renal replacement therapy is required for survival, namely dialysis and organ transplantation. There are two methods of dialysis, one of which is Hemodialysis (Potter, 2005; Smelzer, 2008). Cases of chronic kidney failure in the world have increased by more than 50%, in the United States which is a very developed country every year there are about 20 million adults suffering from chronic kidney failure and undergoing hemodialysis in more than 100,000 patients, while in Indonesia, according to the Indonesian Kidney Diatrans Foundation, YDGI), in 2007 there were about 100,000 chronic kidney failure patients but only a few patients were able to undergo hemodialysis. Kidney replacement therapy in Indonesia was started in 1972 in Jakarta (Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital/FKUI), in Bandung in 1976 (Hasan Sadikin Hospital/FK UNPAD).
