A structural molar volume model based on the silicate tetrahedral Q-species has been developed to accurately predict the molar volume of molten oxides. In this study, the molar volumes of ternary and multicomponent melts in the Li 2 O-Na 2 O-K 2 O-MgO-CaO-MnO-PbO-Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 system are reviewed and compared with the predicted molar volumes from the newly developed structural model. The model can accurately predict the molar volumes using binary model parameters without any ternary or multicomponent parameters. The nonlinear behavior in the molar volume of silicate melts is well predicted by the present model.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
