BackgroundBurnout among nurses is a significant problem in healthcare establishments and has negative implications on clinical outcomes. International studies have shown the prevalence of burnout ranged from 10 to 70%. However, this is unknown among nurses in private hospitals in Addis Ababa. The study was intended to assess the levels of burnout and the associated factors among nurses working in private hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2020.MethodsAn institution-based cross-sectional study was used. A probability sampling, specifically, a simple random sampling technique was employed to collect data, and the Maslach burnout inventory human services survey (MBI-HSS) instrument was adapted to measure the levels of burnout. The data obtained was edited manually and entered into EPI-data version 4.6 and then exported to SPSS version 25 for analysis. Logistic regression was used to identify the association between the dependent and independent variables and variables with p < 0.25 on bivariate analysis were taken into multivariate logistic regression, and then variables with p < 0.05 were considered statistically significant.ResultA total of 385 questionnaires were distributed to participants, but only 368 (96%) of them were collected and included in this study. The majority 56% and 69.8% of them were females and belonged to the age group of 20–29 years, respectively. Two hundred seven (56.5%) of them reported suffering from a high level of burnout. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, night duty shift [AOR = 2.699; 95% CI: (1.043–6.987)], excessive workload [AOR = 6.013; 95% CI: (3.016–11.989)], staff shortage [AOR = 6.198; 95% CI: (3.162–12.147)], persistent interpersonal conflict [AOR = 2.465; 95% CI: (1.225–4.961)], and nurses' poor health status [AOR = 3.4878; 95% CI: (1.815–8.282)] demonstrated a statistical significant association with the professional burnout.Conclusions and RecommendationsNurses' burnout in private hospitals of Addis Ababa was highly prevalent. Therefore, ensuring adequate staffing and minimizing the workload of nurse professionals are mandatory to prevent it.
BackgroundCoronavirus disease 2019 is an emerging respiratory disease that is caused by a novel coronavirus and was first detected in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The world is affected by the Corona Virus Disease in 2019. In sub-Saharan Africa Including Ethiopia there is no study conducted on level of Knowledge, Attitude and Associated Factors toward Coronavirus disease in 2019 among Health care workers Specifically Nurses.ObjectiveThis study aims to assess the level of Knowledge, Attitude and Associated Factors toward Coronavirus disease in 2019 among Nurses Who Work in South Gondar Zone, Hospitals, Northwest Ethiopia, 2020.MethodsAn Institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 166 Nurses in South Gondar Zone, Ethiopia, From June 1st -30/2020. To select study participants after proportional allocation of study subjects to each Hospital, simple random sampling technique were to be used. The Data was entered into Epi info version 7.2.0.1, and exported to Statistical Package for Social Sciences window version 24 for analysis. Binary and Multivariable logistic regression wasl used to see the association between dependent and independent variables. Adjusted odds ratio with 95% confidence interval was computed. P-value < 0.05 was used to declare association. Finally; the result is presented in the form of texts, tables, and graphs.ResultsOf 166 Nurses, 166 (100% response rate) responded to the online interview questionnaire. From 166 nurses, 57.2% of the participants were Females and 42.8% were males, 41.6 % of the respondents were between the ages of 20 and 29 years. About 84.9 % had good knowledge and 63.3% favorable attitude of COVID-19. Wearing general medical masks can prevent one from acquiring infection by the co vid-19 virus (AOR = 0.44, 95% CI =0.005-0.362 were factors of knowledge about COVID-19. Whereas, strongly agree Medical staffs are ready to participate in antiepidemic in the community (AOR =0.08, 95% CI = (0.003-1.76 Were factors of attitude about COVID-19.ConclusionIn this study, most of the nurses had good knowledge and favorable attitude regarding COVID-19. Wearing general medical masks can prevent one from acquiring infection by the covid-19 virus were the factors in association with knowledge OF nurses on COVID-19. Similarly, Medical staffs are ready to participate in antiepidemic in the community factors association with attitudes of nurses on COVID-19.
BackgroundNon-exclusive breastfeeding is becoming major cause of infants and children morbidity and mortality in developing countries including Ethiopia. The magnitude of non-exclusive breast feeding and its factors is not addressed in the study area.ObjectiveTo assess the prevalence of non-exclusive breast feeding and its factors in the first 6 months life of infants among mother-infant pairs of 6 to 12 months in Debre Tabor Town, Northwest Ethiopia, 2019.MethodsA Community based cross sectional study was conducted among 860 mother-infant pairs of 6 to 12 months in Debre Tabor Town, from March 1-30/2019. To select study participants cluster sampling technique was employed. Data was entered into Epi info version 7.2.0.1, and exported to SPSS window version 20 for analysis. Binary and Multivariable logistic regression was used to see the association between dependent and independent variables. Odds ratio with 95% confidence interval was computed. P-value < 0.05 was used to declare association.ResultsThe prevalence of non-exclusive breastfeeding of mothers to their infants within the first 6 months was found to be 39.8% (95% CI: 36.6-43.0). Mothers whose husbands had no formal education (AOR=6.60 [95%CI: 4.14, 10.41), primary education (AOR=4.30 [95% CI: 2.62, 7.20]), Mothers governmental employed ((AOR=8.20 [(95% CI: 5.191, 12.940]), daily laborer (AOR=1.70 [95% CI: 1.01, 2.90], merchant mothers (AOR=0.44 [95% CI: 0.35, 0.90]),and Mothers who had no post-natal care follow up for current baby in health service (AOR=2.40 [(95% CI: 1.56, 3.76]) were significantly associated with Non-exclusive breastfeeding within the first 6 months.Conclusion and RecommendationsHigh proportion of mothers practiced non-exclusive breast feeding within the first 6 months. Husband’s had no formal education, primary education maternal governmental employed, daily laborer, merchant and mothers who had no post-natal follow up were predictors with outcomes in the study area. Hence; it is better to increase annual leave for delivered mothers, improve awareness of husbands towards benefits of introducing complementary feeding timely, and advice mothers to improve post-natal period follow up.
