The use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) could make Small Medium Enterprises (SME) capable of capturing future potential markets. This study investigates how the use of ICT affects firms’ agility and finally ends in their competitive advantage. In other words, this study examines how firms’ ICT capabilities directly enhance their competitive advantage. Their ICT capability also affects the firms’ competitive agitlity indirectly by mediating their business agility. This study infers that if small business firms would like to enhance their supply chains and customer relationship management, they should adopt ICT as a tool to transform their businesses. This transformation improves small firms’ competitiveness levels because it allows them to manage all their customers. Meanwhile, the small business firms could enhance their agility due to their suppliers’ closeness. This means that the small business firms have posited the concepts and philosophy suggested by the resources dependent theory.
The aim of this paper is to establish how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capability has no effect on competitive advantage through the entrepreneurial orientation and organizational agility of Indonesian SMEs in the apparel retail sector. The study is based on resources that cannot be directly converted into the competitive advantage of companies but must instead be subjected to an entrepreneurial process and offer new insights into the use of ICT as a valuable corporate resource. The paper is based on a quantitative approach using a population comprising apparel retailers from traditional markets in Jakarta, Indonesia. The sample was obtained using random sampling. The survey was conducted among 462 small businesses across five traditional apparel markets managed by PD. Pasar Jaya. The data were processed using Structural Equation ModelingPartial Least Squares. The results show that ICT capability has no significant effect on competitive advantage, although it does have a significant effect on entrepreneurial orientation and organizational agility. Organizational agility and entrepreneurial orientation have a significant effect on competitive advantage, thus indicating that ICT capability in small businesses cannot be directly converted into a competitive advantage. The finding of the research is that ICT capability is able to create competitive advantage in small businesses but only when present in conjunction with entrepreneurial orientation and organizational agility.
In 2017, more than 40 new fintech businesses is born, this financial business have emerged that have tried their luck in the Indonesian financial landscape along with the other 140s of startup that have stood before. Indonesia's fintech industry has become one of the prima donna that attracted so much attention from the financial industry actors. Investment on startup fintech began to attract a lot of interest, even some startup managed to get series A of investment this year. The fintech sectors are beginning to develop and many new products are launched.Meanwhile, the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises) launched 3.79 million micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) already utilizing online platform in marketing their products. This number is around 8 percent of the total perpetrators of SMEs in Indonesia, which is 59.2 million.The problem of sources of financing is a classic problem that is a barrier to the growth of SMEs who do not get financing facilities from the banking sector. Lack of financial resources makes SMEs unable to develop innovations to increase production. Investasi pada startup fintech mulai banyak diminati, bahkan beberapa startup berhasil mendapatkan investasi seri A di tahun ini. Sektor-sektor fintech mulai berkembang dan produk-produk baru banyak diluncurkan.Sementara itu, Kementerian Koperasi dan Usaha Kecil Menengah (Kemenkop UKM) melansir sebanyak 3,79 juta usaha mikro, kecil, dan menengah (UMKM) sudah memanfaatkan platform online dalam memasarkan produknya. Jumlah ini berkisar 8 persen dari total pelaku UMKM yang ada di Indonesia, yakni 59,2 juta.Masalah sumber pembiayaan merupakan masalah klasik yang menjadi penghambat pertumbuhan UMKM yang tidak mendapat fasilitas pembiayaan dari sektor perbankan. Kurangnya sumber dana menjadikan UMKM tidak dapat mengembangkan inovasi untuk meningkatkan produksinya. Namun demikian pesatnya pertumbuhan bisnis pembiayaan FinTech seperti peer-to-peer lending sekarang ini bisa menjadi alternatif lain bagi para pencari dana pinjaman. peer-to-peer lending merupakan bisnis pembiayaan yang menyasar sektor pasar menengah ke bawah.
The significant of supply chain management (SCM) on the performance of organization's is described and evaluated in this study. The role of operational performance is examined regarding supply chain in textile and apparel sector which is crucial for the performance of whole organization. Textile industry of Indonesia in terms of revenue is anticipated to grow at an aggregated gross rate of 6.01%, during forecasted period, 2015-2025. Excellent SCM is necessary for managing this growth. Supply chain role is very crucial in this industry for flourishing but unfortunately operational performance of supply chain is not performing on required level. This is a cross sectional type of research and data collection from textile and apparel firm managers which directly supervise to supply chain division. Currently business environment is very competitive and organizations need to focus on SCOP except organizational performance. In this study, we try to find the solution of this problem after analyzing through jointly the mediating role of Information Technology (IT) and independence effect of Relational Capability (RC) and Organizational Culture Capability (OCC) on supply chain operational performance in Indonesian apparel and textile industry. Results indicate that this research is helpful to resolve supply chain operational issues in Indonesia. .
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) on e-business adoption and the impact of e-business adoption on the value chain of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The study uses a quantitative approach where the respondents are 389 SMEs that use e-business in Indonesia. Partial Least Square - Structural Equation Modeling analysis is used in this study to analyze data and test hypotheses. The study results describe that technology, organization, and environment significantly influence the e-business adoption of SMEs. Furthermore, e-business adoption has a substantial impact on the value chain of SMEs. The study provides an overview of SMEs in Indonesia to determine the factors used as references in e-business adoption and how good e-business adoption will add value to businesses, especially in the value chain.
