BACKGROUND: Having experience of sexual assault may bring a great impact on the lives of blind male masseuses. However, a deep understanding of the consequences is currently still not largely explored. AIM: The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of sexual assault and the consequences of sexual assaults incidents which occurred in the lives of blind male masseuses. METHODS: This study used a phenomenological case study design. Interviews were conducted with nine blind male masseuses who had experienced sexual assault while carrying out their profession in Semarang city, Indonesia. The data were analyzed using Giorgi analysis. RESULTS: The experience of being sexually assaulted disrupts almost all of the participants’ lives for a relatively long period of time, and even it is still felt at the present. To release and reduce the fear and trauma caused by sexual assault, the participants consciously drew themselves closer to God as the main thing to do. A prayer to God to be protected from being the victim of sexual assault is a participant’s devotion while carrying out their worship ritual. Talking to other blind masseuses also helps them to find the solutions needed to rebuild their lives. However, the participants tend to feel ashamed and reluctant to convey how such sexual assault has affected their lives to present time. CONCLUSION: Even though the participants have adapted and rebuilt their lives, the residue of sexual assault impact is still felt and remains for a long time. Self-protection training and assistive devices for blind masseuses to prevent the recurrence of sexual assault are significantly important and should be considered to be implemented by nurses.

Data show that Central Java ranks 6th for the number of people with disabilities in Indonesia. The Indonesian union for the blind (PERTUNI) community in Semarang reported having 105 people as its members. One of the problems that occur amongst people in PERTUNI is sexual harassment, which results in a negative impact on both their physical and psychological health. This study aimed to identify sexual harassment experiences among visually impaired (blind) adults working as masseurs in the PERTUNI community, Semarang. This research was a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. The participants were six blind people selected using a purposive sampling technique. The results showed six themes, i.e., helplessness, the fulfillment of daily needs, harassment, the potential for abuse, disruption= of psychological health and avoiding immoral acts. This study concluded that most blind people working as masseurs had experienced sexual harassment in various forms. It is recommended that PERTUNI provides sexual health education as a preventive action to sexual harassment.

Introduction: The prevalence of visually impaired in Indonesia has increased significantly every year. The visually impaired condition is often used by unscrupulous persons to become victims of criminal acts because of their powerlessness. Blind people need resilience to survive in the conditions experienced. There have been many studies on resilience in the blind in general, but none has specifically reviewed the visually impaired adult male. This study aims to reviewed resilience factors of visually impaired adult male. Methods: The researcher used the scoping review method to get a clear picture of resilience factors of the blind adult male. Literature search was carried out using search keywords visually impaired, resilience factors, adult male blind. The database used is Scopus, PUBMED and Google Scholar. Articles inclusion criteria are articles reviewed of publication in the last 10 years (2010-2020), full and specific text are available with research question about the resilience of male blind adult.Result: Based on the identification, there were 166 articles from search engines Scopus, PUBMED and Google Scholar. There were six articles that match the criteria after going through the selection process. Resilience has many factors such as the environment, family and individual. The researcher used the PEO question format (population, exposure, outcome) to find related research articles. Conclusion: Blind people have more serious challenges in building resilience, so further studies need to be done to make interventions to help build resilience for male blind adults.
