This study was inspired by previous studies of how students’ learning influences their learning belief and in turn, their strategies. Unfortunately, few studies concern learners’ conceptions of learning, in particular in learning English; and paid less attention to senior high school students level. With the intention to identify Islamic senior high school. Interview and both close and open questionnaires were used to collect relevant data. To identify students’ conception, Purdie and Hattie’s COLI items were used; and Oxford’s SILL to identify learning strategies. Data collected from close questionnaire were analyzed by quantifying the frequency and the average of particular issues, which include the preference of students' learning conception and learning strategies. Meanwhile, data from interview and open questionnaire were analyzed using Miles and Hubberman’s (1994) framework of qualitative data analyses. Overall, data analyses results showed that, in terms of their conceptions, most students conceived learning as a duty—in order to able to make their parents happy, to serve the community with their knowledge, and most of all, as a way to show their devotion to Allah the all mighty. In addition, most students favored metacognitive learning strategies in learning English. This study came to the conclusion that although the tendency of students’ conception of learning English was at the surface level of learning, most of the students used relatively complex and high-level strategies when it came to their English learning process as they used metacognitive strategies.
This research is intended to investigate the students’ attitudes toward the implementation of project-based learning. Project based learning is becoming increasingly popular in the pedagogical field. Qualitative research method was employed in this study. The respondents of this study were the fourth grade students who were taking coursebook evaluation subject.. The data of this study was gathered by using questionnaire. Then, the collected data were analysed by qualitative description. Based on the questionnaire data, the result indicates that the respondents have a positive attitude towards the implementation of project based learning. It can be seen from three aspects: affective, behavioral, and cognitive aspects. On affective aspect, the respondents were interested to learn by using project based learning because of several benefits that they get after learning by using project based learning. In addition, on cognitive aspects, the findings showed that all respondents believe that project based learning is effective in teaching coursebok evaluation subject. The last, on the behavior aspect, the data showed that during the implementation of project based learning the respondents likes to share ideas and discuss in their group.
Songs are one of media in language to communicate or deliver a message which created by a songs’ writer through a singer to listeners. Songs is very effective as a media in analyzing systemic functional linguistic, because in song contained two text at once, those are when a singers sing, the song is the spoken text, and the song lyric is the written text. The objective of this study is to describe the aspects of Interpersonal Meaning in the lyric of Adele’s Album 21. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative method. The writers analyzed the a song entitled ”Don’t You Remember” based on the Subject, Finite, Predicator, Complement and Adjunct that describe in the table. The writers classified them based on Mood-Residue elements and made the conclusion based on the research findings. The results of the data analysis shows that the interpersonal meaning in the lyric Don’t You Remember of Adele’s album “21”, there are only 4 clauses which do not have aspects of interpersonal meaning from 28 clauses which be analyzed because the clauses only have one element, it is residue. Thus, the conclusion is 85.7 % of the data can be analyzed to find out mood and residue as the aspects of interpersonal meaning.Keywords: Interpersonal meaning, Song lyric
This study was aimed at investigating the use of indirectness and question tags in some Indonesian trials. The data were chosen randomly from YouTube’s videos. The subjects were twenty people consisting of judges, witnesses, and defendants (the accused). To analyze the data, the conversations of the videos were firstly transcribed verbatim. Then, they were analyzed using the framework of Thomas (1995) and Holmes (1984). The data showed that indirect speech style and question tags were more attached to powerful women.
