Studies within second language learning indicate that higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) are important for the process of learning a new language. At the same time, previous literature indicates that assessment tasks in online courses often focus on lowerorder thinking skills. Little is still known about if and how thinking skills are assessed in online EFL courses. Hence, the purpose of this study is to create a more comprehensive understanding of if and how online EFL students at Swedish universities are given opportunities to both develop and being assessed on such skills. According to the sociocultural perspective, collaboration is beneficial to students' learning. Thus, the present study will also look into the correspondence between HOTS e-assessment tasks and collaborative e-assessment tasks. E-assessment tasks used in four online EFL courses given at Swedish universities have been classified according to the revised version of Bloom's taxonomy. This has been done through a quantitative content analysis of used eassessment tasks. The study found that the majority of courses included more eassessment tasks focusing on higher-order thinking than on lower-order thinking. However, a significant difference was detected between literature and linguistics modules in the sense that literature modules include more HOTS e-assessment tasks. Moreover, the results suggest that collaborative e-assessment tasks are slightly more common in eassessment tasks that focus on HOTS than on LOTS. The present study provides insight into how thinking skills are assessed and developed in online language courses.
The quality of health care and patient safety in the operating room is a major concern for nurse anaesthetists. However, few studies have focused on the experiences of nurse anaesthetists' and their contributions to safety in this setting. Therefore, this study aims to explore the content and frequency of incidents reported by nurse anaesthetists in the operating room and the risks involved in these incidents. A retrospective study with a descriptive design was conduct. Data were gathered concerning 220 incidents reported by nurse anaesthetists from 2012 to 2015 in operating rooms at a middle-sized hospital in Sweden. These were analysed with a method for qualitative and quantitative content analysis. The findings are presented in five categories: communication and teamwork; routines and guidelines; patient care; nurses' work environment; devices, materials and technologies. In 184 (73%) of the incidents, there was either a risk of harm or there was an actual harm to patients or nurses. Of all incidents only 23 (10%) had harmed patients or nurses. Few of these incidents involved patient harm (n = 6), while a greater number involved harm to nurses (n = 17). The findings reveal lack of communication and interprofessional teamwork as the two most common areas for the reported incidents, followed by problems related to lack of compliance with guidelines and routines. The findings suggest that strategies are needed to improve these areas. Patient safety reporting systems may be important to identify risk in preventing patients and health care professionals from being harmed. In addition, the findings indicate that the nurses sought to prevent harm to patients rather than to themselves. Consequently, increased attention to the work environments of nurses, and most likely other professionals, in the operating room may be needed to prevent health care professionals from being harmed.
This article explores how resistance and power are intertwined within the field of mainstream Swedish feminism, by analyzing some of its more visible expressions and strategies. These feminist resistance strategies could be described as circulating resistance (e.g., the #metoo campaign), public assemblies, the more subtle “disciplinary resistance”, and state feminism. The article illustrates how these different forms of resistance fuel different reactions from movements that reiterate different discourses of “anti-genderism”. In addition, some forms of feminism (state feminism and feminist disciplinary resistance) sometimes develop into, or overlap with, different technologies of power.
Svenska feminister har ofta avfärdat den franska feministen Hélène Cixous som särartsfeminist. Detta beror på att man har läst hennes litterära, experimentella sätt att skriva alltför bokstavligt och därför missat potentialen i hennes verk.
