Abstract:We assessed the knowledge and awareness of menopausal coping strategies among women in Umuowa community, and we specifically looked at diet, exercise, estrogen replacement and their overall level of knowledge to these coping strategies. Two hundred and thirty-two respondents who had experienced menopausal symptoms responded to a questionnaire. Data collected was presented in tables and described with frequency distributions and percentages. Results showed that the level of awareness of diet, exercise and estrogen replacement as coping strategies for menopause were low. Also the overall knowledge about these strategies was also low among the women. Consequent upon these, we recommend enlightenment campaign and education of women about these strategies to cope with menopause while suggesting further studies on the subject matter.
