KONINKLIJKE/SHELL-LABORATORIUM, AMSTERDAMCertain metal ions, in particular Cozt, Ni2+ and Cu*+ were found to increase the yield of formaldehyde a t the expense of glycol during the radiolysis of methanol. The activities of the divalent first-row transition metal ions correlate strikingly with the effect of these metal ions upon the quenching of triplet anthracene as measured by Linschitz and Pekkarinen. Both effects are ascribed to rapid complex formation between the metal ions and the C H 2OH radicals or triplet anthracene.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
