In this work, we systematically investigate the influence of the volume ratios of hybrid SiC particles (SiCp) on the microstructural characteristics and the room temperature tensile responses of as-cast AZ31B magnesium matrix composites. As the volume ratio of micron and nano-SiCp is 9:1, a significant grain refinement effect is achieved. This is due to both the fairly uniform distribution and refining effect of hybrid SiCp. The micron SiCp distributes along the grain boundaries, while nano-SiCp is mainly distributed around the micron SiCp. Due to grain refinement strengthening and ceramic phase-strengthening effects, the room temperature tensile property of N-1 ? M5-9 has the optimal value of YS157-UTS195 MPa-EL0.92 %.
