Oral health impact the overall health of patients in hospital care because they patients are particularly vulnerable to oral infections and may present complications resulting from their medical condition. 1,2 Studies have demonstrated an association between oral cavity infections and systemic diseases as well as the worsening of these comorbidities due to imbalanced oral conditions. [1][2][3][4][5] The need for dental assessment in hospitals seems to present differences beyond the underlying disease and the treatment the patient is undergoing. The pattern of oral complications may be related to geographic heterogeneity between countries and within a country, as well as to the level of care complexity. 5,6 Thus, this study aimed to investigated the prevalence of the most common reasons for dental assessment among outpatients and inpatients at a private hospital in southern Brazil.The present study was approved by the Ethics and
