Scholars have investigated the direct linkage between manager's age and sustainable corporate performance, however, the mixed results and conflicting findings on the nature of the relationship demand further explanation through the missing constructs. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to examine the mediating role of sustainable entrepreneurial orientation in the manager's age and sustainable performance. This study develops a conceptual link by using a dynamic capabilities approach and upper echelon perspective, indicating that younger managers can adopt a more holistic approach towards sustainable practices which can enhance the environmental, social and economic performance of firms. This implies that the relationship between manager's age and sustainable performance can be explained through sustainable entrepreneurial orientation (SEO) which can play a key role in setting organizational direction towards sustainable development and achieving sustainable business performance. This study contributes to the literature by examining the role of SEO in the relationship between the manager's age and sustainable performance. This research will help practitioners recognize the importance of minimizing environmental and social problems generating due to organizational production activities. This will lead to profit generation as well as value creation for nature and the local community.
This research analyses the importance of recognizing cultural factors in order to shape CSR Perceptions of employees to derive higher levels of employee's engagement. Hofstede's five cultural dimensions were explored in Pakistani context through a thorough review of the literature on the relationship between national culture, CSR Perceptions and employee's engagement, which were then contextually presented in the form of a hypothesized model. Primary data collection was done by administering questionnaires to 192 employees from technological industry of Pakistan. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) using latest ADANCO Software was employed to statistically validate the relationship between the variables. This paper provides conceptual contribution by focusing on the identification of the most significant and relevant cultural dimensions affecting employee's CSR Perceptions and engagement in the context of Pakistan and countries with similar cultural context. Findings of this paper indicate that understanding cultural context of a particular country is crucial for enhancing the perceptions of employees regarding the CSR initiatives being practiced by the organization. This generates employees who are more engaged and productive in their work; hence, it turns advantageous for the employer and employee alike. These findings provide guidelines for the practitioners and managers so that they can capitalize their efforts in a more efficient way by making employees aware of the CSR activities taking forward by them according to the cultural orientations of workforce and reap the desired benefits out of it.
In contemporary scenario, the world is facing significant climate challenges that demand managers to possess awareness of the natural laws, exhibit transformative and collaborative thinking and become more proactive contributors of sustainability in the world. Hence, sustainability education is required more than ever before for a prosperous future. By synthesizing the existing body of knowledge using systematic review, this paper critically discusses the aspirations of educating for sustainable development. This study shows that despite the worldwide recognition of sustainability practices, its adoption and practice is not at par, as the workforce lacks the necessary skills that are required for implementing sustainable initiatives. This proposition suggests the role of higher education institutes that raise and foster such skills in potential future managers. Hence, this paper discusses reform in the existing system and programs of higher education institutes to enhance personnel awareness and to develop the required skills for taking sustainable initiatives. Moreover, this paper indicates value education mechanisms and the need for experiential, action focused learning to bring change at an individual level which will transform the way organizations deal with sustainability issues. The findings contribute to the literature by suggesting actions such as integrating themes from sustainable entrepreneurship into education for sustainability, training the stakeholders, establishing multi-level collaboration, and resolving gender issues in HEI's, which will deliver better results in these crises times.
