Th is paper examines the innovation and employability of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members for sustainable development in south-east Nigeria. Th e research design employed for this study was a descriptive survey. Th e population for this study comprises all NYSC members serving in southeast Nigeria. A purposive sampling technique was used to sample all 2019 Batch "C" who participated in the Post Mobilisation Workshop held on 27t -29t January 2020. Also, a simple random sampling technique was used to select 400 NYSC members from each state of south-east Nigeria. In all, 2000 NYSC members participated in this study. Th e questionnaire that was used to collect data in this study was titled "Infl uence of Innovation on Employability of NYSC Members for Sustainable Development Questionnaire". Percentages were used in describing the demographic characteristics of the respondents, and mean ratings were used to answer the research questions. Th e fi ndings revealed that infl uence of innovation on employability of NYSC members for sustainable development in south-east Nigeria was positive. Th e main new innovation to enhance employability of NYSC members for sustainable development in south-east Nigeria was agro-allied. Th e main employability skills of NYSC members for sustainable development in south-east Nigeria were confi dence skills. It was concluded that innovation positively infl uences employability of NYSC members. It was recommended that the NYSC commission should embark on introducing more innovative skills to NYSC members for them to be able to stand on their own aft er the NYSC programme.
The study is a survey of factors that hindered married women who had secondary education from aspiring for tertiary education in South-West Nigeria. The population for the study comprised all married woman that finished secondary schools but did not embark on tertiary education in the geo-political zone. Findings revealed that women’s aspirations for tertiary education in South-West Nigeria were hindered by marital factors such as; marriage, childbearing and family financial needs. On the other hand, factors such as; religious belief and gender discrimination were found to be insignificant in hindering women aspiration for tertiary education in the zone. It was also found out that the effects of most of the factors were more potent on the aspirations of older women than on those of younger women. Based on this it was recommended that women aspirations for higher education should be aided by functioning policies from government and non-governmental organizations.
Ever since, terrorist groups particularly the Boko Haram, have been exploding bombs in Borno, Maiduguri, Niger, Kaduna and Bayelsa States of Nigeria. Scores of people have become homeless – emotionally and physically displaced as a result of these terrorist acts. As these continue in the country, there is the need to research into how victims of the crises cope and particularly, to know the educational and social-re-orientation needs of the victims. Thus, this study examines the educational and social orientation needs of internally displaced persons in selected North-Central States of Nigeria. The population for the study comprised of all the internally displaced persons in the six (6) states constituting the North-Central geo-political zone of Nigeria. Random sampling technique was used to sample two states which are; Kogi and Kwara states. Subsequently, purposive sampling technique was used to sample a total of 212 internally displaced persons. Collected data were analyzed using percentages and chi-square statistics. Results show that 65.71% of male and 47.66% of female IDPs expressed need for reinstatement in the educational programme, 87.61% male and 43.92% of female IDPs expressed missing their course of study and 83.80% male and 36.44% female IDPs expressed nostalgia for learning in their former school. On the other hand, only1.90% of male, 15.88% of female, 9% of Christians and 10.75% of Muslims IDPs expressed the need to learn the culture of their new environment as their major social orientation needs. In addition to this, 73.33% of male, 85.04% of female, 88% of Christians and 86.02% of Muslim IDPs expressed to regain battered self-esteem as their social orientation needs. Based on the findings, it was concluded that internally Displaced Persons have varied education and social orientation needs that vary on the basis of their gender and religion. Thus, it was recommended that government and other stakeholders should make provisions in policies and infrastructures to meet the educational and social orientation needs of persons displaced across the Northern Nigeria as a result of political and religious crises.
