Metabolic syndrome is a set of numerous risk factors for the development of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). Metabolic syndrome includes an amalgam of biochemical disorders: increased blood pressure, blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, increased triglycerides and cholesterol levels. Although there are several Metabolic syndrome definitions today with different criteria for setting diagnosis, its significance is not reduced. Early detection and adequate treatment will prevent the occurrence of metabolic syndrome complications. The aim of this paper is to critically compare different criteria for diagnosing metabolic syndrome, bearing in mind that there are no unified positions for defining this for life dangerous and highly represented syndrome.
