Historical reports state that women started using rudimentary contraceptive methods at least four thousand years ago. 1 Over time, these methods have improved, until between the 1950s and 1960s, the first oral contraceptives appeared in the United States of America. 2,3 Mostly made up of substances known as ethylinestradiol and progestin, oral contraceptives started to be commercialized worldwide in a short time due to their effectiveness, low cost, and feasibility of use. 3
