The increase in the number of users of the Smart TVs has been veryfast: just between 2016 and 2017, there has been an expansion ofmore than 7 million users. At the same time, considering the globalestimates referring to the increase of longevity, it can be predicteda gradual increment of elderly people utilizing these devices in thecoming years, which highlights the importance of perfecting theirquality of use. In this context, the objective of the present study isto evaluate what are the main challenges elderly people face whileusing Smart TVs, focusing on a specific application, known as NETNow. To conduct this study, the focus was on the quality of useof communicability, analysed through the application of two evaluationmethods: the Semiotic Inspection Method, applied by oneevaluator, and the Communicability Evaluation Method, applied tosix participants aged between 60 and 80 years. It has been observedthat both methods indicated problems related to different communicabilitybreakdowns, emphasizing the importance of this kindof evaluation in order to improve the quality of use of interactivesystems.
