We have designed and synthesized highly efficient organic sensitizers with a planar thienothiophene–vinylene–thienothiophene linker. Under standard global AM 1.5 solar conditions, the JK‐113‐sensitized cell gave a short circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) of 17.61 mA cm−2, an open‐circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.71 V, and a fill factor (FF) of 72 %, corresponding to an overall conversion efficiency (η) of 9.1 %. The incident monochromatic photo‐to‐current conversion efficiency (IPCE) of JK‐113 exceeds 80 % over the spectral region from 400 to 640 nm, reaching its maximum of 93 % at 475 nm. The band tails off toward 770 nm, contributing to the broad spectral light harvesting. Solar‐cell devices based on the sensitizer JK‐113 in conjunction with a volatile electrolyte and a solvent‐free ionic liquid electrolyte gave high conversion efficiencies of 9.1 % and 7.9 %, respectively. The JK‐113‐based solar cell fabricated using a solvent‐free ionic liquid electrolyte showed excellent stability under light soaking at 60 °C for 1000 h.
In the research of new nanocomposite proton-conducting membranes, SnO2 ceramic powders with surface functionalization have been synthesized and adopted as additives in Nafion-based polymer systems. Different synthetic routes have been explored to obtain suitable, nanometer-sized sulphated tin oxide particles. Structural and morphological characteristics, as well as surface and bulk properties of the obtained oxide powders, have been determined by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopies, N2 adsorption, and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). In addition, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), atomic force microscopy (AFM), thermal investigations, water uptake (WU) measurements, and ionic exchange capacity (IEC) tests have been used as characterization tools for the nanocomposite membranes. The nature of the tin oxide precursor, as well as the synthesis procedure, were found to play an important role in determining the morphology and the particle size distribution of the ceramic powder, this affecting the effective functionalization of the oxides. The incorporation of such particles, having sulphate groups on their surface, altered some peculiar properties of the resulting composite membrane, such as water content, thermo-mechanical, and morphological characteristics.
The viscoelastic properties of gadolinium-doped ceria (CGO) powder compacts are characterized during sintering and cooling under reduced oxygen partial pressure and compared with conventional sintering in air. Highly defective doped ceria in reducing conditions shows peculiar viscoelastic properties due to fast mass diffusion phenomena activated at low temperatures by Ce 4+ to Ce 3+ reduction. Particularly, the viscous behavior is affected by dramatic microstructural changes, fast grain growth and densification, which are rapidly completed in the last stage of sintering.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
