EPR investigations a t T = 4.2 K show the principal g-values of the radiation induced hole centres in CaWO, being different from those obtained a t temperatures 8 7 8 K, whereas the principal directions of the g-tensor remain nearly unchanged. The g-tensor a t T = 4.2 K is quite well explained by a model in which the hole is assumed in an oxygen pR-orbital, including some admixtures from other orbitals of the WO, tetrahedron. In this model, combined with a weak bonding between two neighboured WO, tetrahedra, the observed hyperfine interaction of the hole with two inequivalent WlSs nuclei can be understood too. The transition to the results a t higher temperatures is possible by a faster exchange of the hole between the two WO, complexes.EPR-Untersuchungen bei T = 4,2 K zeigen, daD die Hauptwerte des g-Tensors der strahlungsinduzierten Lochzentren in CaWO, von denjenigen abweichen, die man bei
Electron paramagnetic resonance has been observed at single crystals of calcium tungstate doped with lead. After exposure to X-ray irradiation a t the temperature of liquid air paramagnetic centres appear. One group of lines originates from the Vrcentre in the tungstates. The resonance of Pb3+ ions a t Ca2+ sites is reported. This spectrum is characterized by a pronounced hyperfine interaction of the unpaired 6s electron of the Pb3+ ion with the nuclear magnetic moment of the PbZo7 isotope. Superhyperfine interaction with four surrounding tungsten nuclei is observed indicating covalent bonding effects with the tungstate groups as ligands and a treatment of the complex in terms of molecular orbitals is proposed. The thermal annealing of the centres detected by E P R is correlated with the thermoluminescence glow curve.
After irradiation with X-rays in the energy range 50 to 150 keV at the temperature of liquid air paramagnetic centres are created in single crystals of CaWO,. The centre with a spectroscopic splitting factor slightly higher than g = 2 originates from a hole stably trapped between two tungstate tetrahedrons. The signal of the corresponding electron is broad and rather difficult to det, ect. The concentrat, ion of these centres depends linearly on the dose of irradiation. The decrease of the EPR signal of the hole and electron centres with temperature is correlated with the thermoluminescence intensity.
The time-varying gas temperature of afterglow plasmas is determined from the frequencies of standing acoustic waves which are produced during the breakdown of low-pressure gases (0.1–20 Torr). The sound field is probed with free-space microwave (9 and 70 Gc/sec) interferometers in transmission and reflection. Capacitor discharges are found to heat the gas significantly. The temperature does not decay to room temperature within the observed afterglow periods.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
