The magnetic behavior of n-alkyliron(lll) (or n-aryliron(III)) porphyrins is studied in solution and in solid state by various spectroscopic methods: *H NMR, ESR, and 57Fe Móssbauer spectroscopies. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements were also performed on these complexes. The iron(III) atom of these compounds is present in different spin states.
Sulphinatoiron(iii) porphyrins [FeL(S02R)] (L = porphyrinate, R = alkyl or aryl) have been prepared by the insertion reaction of sulphur dioxide into the Fe-C cr bond of alkyl(or aryl)iron(tii) porphyrins [FeLR]. The obtained products are easily oxidised by molecular oxygen to the corresponding sulphonate derivatives, also generated by acid hydrolysis of the Fe-0 bonds of the p-0x0-dimers [(FeL),O] by the appropriate sulphonic acid. The stereochemistry of the metal centre has been established by l H n.m.r., e.s.r., and i.r. measurements and confirmed by the crystal structure determination of the title compound by X-ray diffraction methods. The crystals are triclinic, space group P1 , with a = 11.01 (2), b = 11.09(1 ), A-B ( 2 : 1)
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
