Pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita Pepo) have received considerable attention in recent years due to its health protective and nutritional benefits. They are a beautiful food-earthy in flavor, sweet nuts used in variety of dishes like snacks (baking), soups, and salads. They are a good source of calories, proteins, carotenoids, minerals, fiber and phytosterols which contribute in regulating cholesterol. They also have omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids needed for hormone balance, brain function and skin health. Tryptophan present in these seeds aids in milk production in lactating mothers and used to reduce postpartum swelling of the hands and feet. Hence Pumpkin seeds serve as a good nutritious snack and helps in promoting good health. Commentary:Oral Squamous cell carcinoma is considered to be a relatively common head and neck malignancy. Lymph node metastasis and locoregional invasion are prime factors determining prognosis 1 . Chemoprevention with natural herbal substances is an upcoming approach for cancer prevention 2 . Flavonoids are natural polyphenolic compounds capable of potentially suppressing the malignant transformation 3 .Flavonoids have been proven as effective chemotherapeutic agents, inhibiting tumor growth by inducing cancer cell apoptosis mediated primarily by their antioxidative properties 4 . In addition, flavonoids have shown to affect drug transport, cyclin-dependent cell cycle regulation, protein glycosylation regulation, and modulate platelet function 5 .
