Abstract Some bis(η5-methylcyclopentadienyl) N-aryl-dithiocarbamato chloro titanium(IV) compounds of the general formula η5-(Mecp)2Ti(S2CNRH)Cl (R = phenyl; o-, m- and p-tolyl; p-methoxy phenyl; o- and p-ethoxy phenyl; o-, m- and p-chlorophenyl; p-bromophenyl and p-iodophenyl groups) have been prepared by the reaction of bis(η5-methylcyclopentadienyl) titanium(IV) dichloride with ammonium N-aryl-dithiocarbamates. A study of the molecular weight, conductance, infrared and electronic spectra, and magnetic susceptibility in addition to elemental analysis has been carried out to throw some light on the probable structure of these derivatives
Bis (~~-cycIopentaienyl) A number of cyclopentadienyt derivatives of tungsten of the type [(CsH5)aWCla]a PtC161), (C,H,),WX, (X-CI, Br, I)*), (C,H,)WOCl(OR),31, (C,H5),WO(R),4) have been reported. However there is no reference in the literature regarding the preparation of dicyclopentadienyl N-dithiocarbamato chloro oxotungsten(V1) compIexes of the type pS-CpaWO(S,CNRI)CI and 85-CpsWO(S2CNRR')C1 where R-Me, Et, i-Pr and RI-cycIohexyI group. Therefore it was thought worthwhiIe to synthesize these complexes and to carry out their physicochemical studies. All these compounds have bidentate dithiocarbamato ligands similar to those reported earlier$-a).
EXPERIMENTALSodium dithiocarbamates were prepared by the method described by Klapping and Kerk'l and dried in vacuo over phosphorus pentoxide (first at room temperature and then at 110"). Bis(+cyclopentadienyi)oxotungsten(VI) dichloride was prepared by the interaction of tungsten oxytetrachloride and sodium cyclopentadienyl in THF".A good grade of tetrahydrofuran was dried and purified by keeping it over solid potassium hydroxide overnight, then over sodium for 2-3 hrs and then finally purified by distillation over lithium-aluminium hydride. Fractions collecting at 65' were used. All other organic solvents used in the experimental work were dried and purified by the methods prescribed by VogeP.All operations were carried out under strictly anhydrous conditions. . MetaI tungsten in the complexes was determined as 8-hydroxy quinolate and weighed as WOIp'. Chlorine was determined as AgCI.Nitrogen was estimated by KjeldahI's method and sulphur was estimated by the standard method described in literature'*).Solid state ' XR spectra in 'K3r pelIets' in the range 4000-200cm-1 were recorded on
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
