Nanoemulsion technology in the skincare production process plays an important role in improving product quality. Nanoemulsion has a small droplet size which increases the ability of the active compounds to penetrate the skin. Nanoemulsion forming components are similar to conventional methods but the dispersed particles and droplets are smaller in size with a diameter of 20-200 nm. Nanoemulsion has been widely applied to skincare products to increase stability and to improve quality. Agro-industrial based nanoemulsions have potential in the formulation of skincare products. A general description of the formulation, process and application of skincare products will be presented in the discussion. The method used consists of two parts, namely the high energy method which includes microfluidization, high pressure homogenization and ultrasonication, while the low energy method consists of phase inversion composition, phase transition temperature, solvent displacement and newly developed approaches such as D phase emulsification. The purpose of this literature study is to discuss the process and methods of skincare nanoemulsion formulations to increase stability, the potential of agro-industrial based material as a nanoemulsion and cover the potential for scale-up.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
