Oestradiol-17β labeled with tritium in the α orientation of C-17 was administered intravenously to two women. Oestrone, oestradiol, oestriol and 3α-hydroxypregnan-20-one were isolated from the urine and the isotope incorporated into these metabolites was measured. The results supported the prior conclusion that oestradiol is rapidly oxidized in vivo and that oestrone serves as the immediate precursor of oestriol. A possible explanation is offered for the presence of trace quantities of isotope in oestriol and 3α-hydroxypregnan-20-one.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
