An attempt was made to replicate previous successful efforts to construct three subscales measuring different facets of work autonomy. Compared to previous attempts, where cross-occupational samples were taken, the present study drew from a relatively homogeneous sample of dental hygienists (n = 89). Factor analysis failed to replicate the three distinct subscales. Rather, one single nine-item measure of autonomy was formed which, for construct and divergent validity purposes, was predictably associated with variables with which theoretically it should be associated, and was predictably not associated with variables with which theoretically it should not be associated. Implications for the further development of a multidimensional measurement of work autonomy are discussed.
This study examines the anticipated tenure of the chief executive officer (CEO) from the incumbent's point of view. An analysis of approximately 1500 questionnaires returned by corporate presidents reveals that anticipated tenure is generally little affected by whether the CEO is recruited from within or from outside the organization. However, under conditions of formalized succession planning and when confronted with specific problems, such as modernizing operations, mandates to increase sales and merger operations, there exist differences in anticipated tenure between inside and outside recruited CEOs. These differences are discussed in terms of their implications to corporate level succession planning.
This document is intended to show how basic leadership theories were used to form the framework for research in the field of athletic leadership. Leadership theories such as trait, behavioral and situational are discussed as well as the eventual impact they had on the development of Chelladurai's and Carron's sports specific Multidimensional Theory of Sports Leadership. Finally, the document provides information on some of the shortcomings and successes of the relevant research efforts. In addition, the document provides at least one means with which to determine future appropriate research efforts and hopefully the encouragement to do so.
