Introduction. The increasing complex nature of academic dishonesty demands that empirical models are built to explain the psychosocial and motivational variables involved in the way examination malpractice is morally viewed by adolescents. This has been underexplored in Nigeria over the years given that available studies have not utilized designs that could give comprehensive understanding of pathways through which moral views of adolescents on examination malpractice could be predicted. Method. This study developed an empirical model using path analysis to explain the direct and indirect effects of parenting styles, test anxiety, academic self-efficacy on adolescents' moral stance on examination malpractice scenarios. The multivariate predictor correlational research design was adopted. Dimensions of the parenting styles served as exogeneous variables while test anxiety, self-efficacy and moral stance on examination malpractice served as endogeneous variables with test anxiety and self-efficay serving as mediators. The sample size was made up of 741 senior seconday school students, classs one (SS1) from 15 secondary schools located in southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Results. Findings showed, among others, that the final hypothesized model fit the data satisfactorily and that permissive parenting style and test anxiety significantly and positively predicted adolescents' amoral stance on examination malpractice while authoritative parenting negatively predicted their amoral stance on examination malpractice. Permissive parenting style had both direct and indirect significant effects on adolescents' moral stance on examination malpractice. Discussion and Conclusion. Discussion was based on the findings resulting to the conclusión that inappropriate parenting style and problematic psychological dispositions are factors that could influence the moral views of adolescents. For appropriate intervention to be mounted for students, there is the need to incorporate how adolescents are trained by their parents.
Schools in Africa have not given much attention to technical education. “Technical education is the kind of training that concerns a particular aspect of science, occupation or profession which has both theoretical and practical instructions that are given to those who are going to be employed in commerce and industry using tools and machinery for the operation, production, preservation and distribution of goods and services.” Unfortunately, this aspect of education has suffered neglect for many years. This could be the main reason Africa is still backward technologically. This paper attempts to examine the concept of technical education as a key to industrialization in Africa, the importance and role of technical education in African industrial advancement, and the challenges facing technical education in Africa. The paper has concluded that technical education takes the lead for industrialization in Africa because through it, youths and adults will be equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge needed for economic growth and development.
Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation has gained unprecedented global attention on account of her dismal records in corruption. The negative effects of these on her image are enormous. Notwithstanding her huge human and material potentials, she lies prostrate behind other developing nations. This paper examines corruption in Nigeria and its deplorable effect to the development and image of the country. It attempts to use Robert Nozick's entitlement principle as a prescription to complement the fight against corruption in Nigeria by the anti-graft agencies. To achieve this, this paper employs an analytic method to examine the meaning of corruption. It also attempts to review earlier solutions proffered by eminent scholars on the fight against corruption. Finally, it employs the rectification principle of Robert Nozick to complement the fight against corruption in Nigeria. This paper prescribes the need for value shift on the citizen's quest for material acquisitions and concludes that there is urgent need for rectification of all ill-gotten and unjust acquisitions by past and present office holders that are found guilty by the anti-graft agencies. This will bring sanity back to Nigeria's governance and polity.
