INTRODUCTION: Unsafe sexual behavior between two partners may lead to incidence of STDs/HIV/ AIDS and can create serious problems in society. Both biological and behavioural variables are playing significant role to determine sexual activities of humans and result may end the probability that infection will occur after unsafe sexual contact between a susceptible and infected partner. OBJECTIVES : To study high risk sexual behaviour among the Nepali migrant labourers in India. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of 240 Nepali migrant labourers temporarily residing in India was carried out. A brief interview schedule was used tocollect information. RESULTS : Most of the Nepali migrant workers (below 30 years) were involved in high risk sexual behaviour. 74.58 percent were exposure to unsafe physical relation. Healthy population is indispensable for national development. Adequate food intake by people is the key determinant to keep up their health. Malnutrition nevertheless remains pervasive in developing countries, undermining people's health, productivity, and often their survival. Food insecurity and hunger remain persistent in Nepal, prevalence of low calories intake by rural family is widespread throughout the country population. Mainly marginalized communities, ethnic group with poor economic status, traditional societies and lower cast people are exposed to food deficit. The cross-sectional study was designed to investigate the prevalence of low calories intake by rural families and its associated determinants in Palpa district of Nepal at 2012. A random sample of 339 families was selected from rural areas (DUMRE, DAMKADA and TELGHA villages) of this district. Data were analyzed by using the SPSS software for Windows (version 16.0). The existence of inadequate food calorie intake among rural families was most common. Most of them were fall under the malnutrition. The study concluded that calorie intake of ethnic group was significantly higher than other group.
The provision for special care during pregnancy through public health services is considered by World Health organization as a part of reproductive health right of women which, however, is not achieved till date due to socio-cultural factors resulting increased maternal morbidity and mortality. The objective of this study is to observe impact of socio-cultural factors on antenatal practices. The study was conducted in three Village Development Committees (Dakhaquady, Khaira, and Belbash) of Pyuthan district. During the period Cross-sectional study was followed. Two hundred forty six respondents were selected through simple random procedure. Interview schedules were used to collect information from respondents. Data were tabulated in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and analyzed using SPSS 11.5. The mean age of first pregnancy among respondents was 18.75 years. Forty-two percent of them were illiterate and 76.90 percent respondents were involved in agricultural field work. Early marriage and pregnancy systems were most common in study population. Socio-cultural factors were strongly associated with ANC practices.
