Objective: We use an approach that merge aspects from the literature of Value and the literature of Business Models, thus exploring aspects related to value proposition, value creation and value capture. More specifically, we analyze how these aspects were affected by in four small Brazilian organizations that were attending to the industry 4.0.Methodology: To explore the relationship between the aspects of value and the industry 4.0/digital transformation, we conducted four case studies on small Brazilian enterprises. Our study is classified as being exploratory, with a cross-sectional perspective merged with a longitudinal approximation.Originality / relevance: The origin of digital transformation is present in the areas of engineering and computer science and, therefore, resulting in technical studies, while the perspectives of economic and business management are still little explored in academia. Results:The results demonstrate that all three aspects of value were affected by the industry 4.0, but with a greater level at the organizations classified as providers of digital technologies. Apart from that, we also identified that the organizations relied mainly on partnerships and organizational ecosystems to successfully address and overcome the changes created by Industry 4.0.Theoretical / methodological contributions: We used a combination of the literature stream related to business model and the literature stream related to value. Thus, we provide an extension to these two streams of literature. Thus, expanding our understanding about the relationship between value and the industry 4.0/digital transformation by validating which items were qualitatively identified in these four organizations.
We use a meta-synthesis approach to review qualitative case studies where the relationship between value and digital transformation/industry 4.0 is explored. Our goal is to provide contributions beyond those achived on the original studies, thus providing novel insights from the study findings. The results demonstrate that value is explored on two dimensions: Business Models and value chains. However, we identify that studies tend to overlook critical points of industry 4.0 when exploring value. This meta-synthesis demonstrate that studies need to encompass a broader scenario, dealing also with co-creation of value and also considering ecosystem aspects where the organizations are inserted for the comprehension of value capture aspects. We conclude by providing future research directions based on the meta-analysis of the reviewed studies.
This study uses a bibliometric approach to analyze how the scientific production of entrepreneurship and the theoretical approach of the dynamic capabilities is corelated. With a sample of 701 studies from the Web of Science database we identified 88 articles concentrated in four different journals, pointing the most productive authors, the most cited references and clusters of keywords mainly related to entrepreneurship and dynamic capabilities. The results demonstrates that entrepreneurship and dynamic capabilities are two research streams that still need to have their relationships better explored, since the bibliometric maps demonstrated that most studies appear to have a main focus on dynamic capabilities but only addressing entrepreneurship related either to the entrepreneur itself, or to its entrepreneurial orientation, not exploring other important entrepreneurship issues. This work contributes theoretically by addressing a relationship still underexplored at the academy, thus encouraging future studies on the theme.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
