Background: The growth and success of any organization usually depends on its employees. Turnover in health care institutions has significant challenge on customer service levels, company profits, and cause training and expatriation losses cost. In light of current concerns over nursing shortages, nurse's turnover intent is a topic of great importance. The healthcare community needs to be concerned about nursing turnover intention and the effect on the projected nursing shortage. The evaluation of nursing turnover intention and the association between turnover intention and various predictors needs to be determined. To comprehend the factors of nurses' turnover intention can help the top management in designing effective strategies to overcome this issue. Method: Cross-sectional study design was used. Data was collected from March 2013 to April 2013 by using a structured questionnaire. A total of 372 respondents were filed the questionnaire with the response rate of 87.84%.Odds ratio and regression analysis were performed at a P value of 0.05. Result: Findings suggested that 59.4% of respondents indicating a turnover intention from their current health care institution. Family arrangement is significantly associated with nurses' turnover intention (P-0.009, 95% C.I. 1.20-3.50).In this study procedural justice was significantly associated with nurses' turnover intention (P 0.013, 95% C.I. 1.14-3.02). Lack or low procedural justice in the health institutions increases the turnover intention of nurses. Organizational commitment was found to significantly association with nurses' turnover intention (P-0.026, 95% C.I. 1.07-2.84). The study shows that level of salary was significantly associated with nurses' turnover intention (p. 0.007, 95%C.I., 1.22-3.52). The result shows that training opportunity affect turnover intention. Low training opportunity significantly associated with nurses' turnover intention (P.0.000, 95%C.I., 1.54-4.35). Nurses with lower salary demonstrated higher intent of turnover than higher salary employees. Lack of transport was also significantly associated with nurses' turnover intention (P. 0.018, 95%C.I., 1.13-3.71) in these study findings. The result indicated that job satisfaction is significantly associated with nurses' turnover intention (P. 0.029, 95%C.I. 1.06-2.97). Conclusion: Nurses are useful to the health care institution to provide quality care. If the health care institution want to reduce nurses' turnover, then it is important to understand factors which increase nurses' turnover intentions. The results of this study suggest that interventions should be carried out to reduce the nurses' turnover intention in East Gojjam governmental health care institutions.
Introduction. Universal use of partograph is recommended during labor, to improve maternal and fetal outcome. The aim was to assess knowledge and attitude of obstetric caregivers about partograph and associated factors. Methods. Facility based cross-sectional study was conducted on 273 study participants. Study facilities and study units were selected using simple random sampling technique. Midwives, Nurses, Public Health Officers, Medical Doctors, and masters in Emergency Surgery and Obstetric were included in the study. Epi-data and SPSS statistical software were used. Results. About 153 (56.04%) and 150 (54.95%) of the obstetric caregivers had good knowledge and favorable attitude about partograph, respectively. Knowledge of partograph was significantly higher among obstetric caregivers that learnt about partograph during their College and who had received partograph on job training (AOR: 2.14, 95% C.I (1.17–3.93)) and (AOR: 2.25, 95% C.I (1.21–4.19)), respectively. Favorable attitude towards partograph was significantly higher among obstetrical caregivers who had training and learnt about partograph during their college (AOR: 3.37, 95% C.I (1.49–5.65)) and (AOR: 2.134, 95% C.I (1.175–3.877)), correspondingly. Conclusion. Above half of obstetric caregivers had good knowledge and a favorable attitude on partograph. The provision of on preservice and job training is necessary to improve caregivers' knowledge and attitude.
ObjectiveGlaucoma is one of the common eye disorders resulting from optic neuropathy, which leads to irreversible blindness if left untreated. Poor adherence to glaucoma medical treatments typically leads to some serious consequences, such as progressive visual impairment and blindness. The aim of this study was to assess adherence to treatment and associated factors among patients with glaucoma attending at Northwest Ethiopia referral hospitals.MethodFrom March 1st to April 30th, 2019, an institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 382 consecutive glaucoma patients attending at Northwest Ethiopia referral hospitals. Data about adherence to glaucoma treatment was collected by using a standardized tool, the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8, through an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Each collected data set was coded and entered into Epi-Data version 4.2, and analysis was done by using STATA version 14.0 statistical software. A logistic regression model was fitted to assess the effect of an independent variable on the dependent variable. A p-value < 0.05 was considered to declare a statistically significant association. The study proposal was approved by the Debre Markos University ethical review committee.ResultsAmong the study participants, 189 (49.5%) were adherent to glaucoma treatment. In this study, occupation (farmer), good knowledge, favorable attitude, a short distance from patients’ homes to hospitals, and scheduling problems for glaucoma medical follow-up visits were significant factors associated with adherence to glaucoma treatments.ConclusionThe study has identified the adherence level as being low. Patient related factors and health care system related factors were significantly associated with adherence to glaucoma treatments. Appropriate patient education and planning a patient follow-up strategy might improve patients’ adherence to glaucoma treatment. Care providers should place emphasis on the importance of adherence.
