This article introduces the need to look at design with a focus on challenges related to the export of products and services. Therefore, it presents an unsystematic literature review of concepts and theories that can support a specific design method for export. In this way, the most relevant productions on the themes were investigated: design methods, innovation and design thinking, public design policies and business and export design. Based on these investigations, some reflections were made indicating possibilities of using these concepts for the structuring of a design method for export. As a result, it is possible to infer that if a design method for export is based on such theoretical assumptions, it will be successful. This success can be seen through radical innovation products or even adapting to sustainable demands and responding to complex challenges.
