CEFET, in partnership with the city hall of Rio das Flores -RJ, conducted the project "Programa Mulheres Rurais Produtivas" (Rural Women Productive Program), with the objective of training women living in rural and low-income areas of the municipality, aiming to increase the quality of life of the participants and economic and social development in these locations. Practical and theoretical classes were held on the production of sweets and jellies at CEFET, and socioeconomic interviews with the participants. In addition, a booklet was prepared on simple and efficient techniques for the production of artisanal sweets in order to complement the information on practical classes. The results showed that the majority of women receive less than a minimum wage monthly; they are black; and, they have incomplete elementary education. At the end of the work, an Association was formed among the participants, resulting in the production and sale of sweets, contributing to the addition of value to local fruits, as well as an increase in income for the women participating in the Project.
