The study involved a population of 611 academic staff from where Taro Yamene was used to select a sample of 242 academic staff. Data collected were analyzed using inferential statistics. The study gathered data mainly through a primary source using a five point likert scale as its major instrument. The Kruskawalis test (H) was employed to test the significance of the research hypotheses while the Bowley's proportional allocation formula was used to determine each state's contribution to the sample size. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 23.0. The study concluded that there are other intricate work conditions that are needful towards ensuring substantial and sustainable commitment of the employees hence, a right mix of these work conditions should be instituted by private tertiary institutions in South-East, Nigeria. In line with the findings and conclusion, the researchers recommends as follows; Private tertiary institutions in South-East Nigeria should not only continue with the contributory pension scheme but should ensure its early remittance. Institutions yet to undertake such scheme should endeavor to do so, Paying competitive salaries especially using salary scale of federal government owned tertiary institutions can complement the contributory pension scheme and enhance employees commitment and that Beyond contributory pension scheme and other financial tools, ensuring that the social needs of unionism of the academic staff are met can help private tertiary institutions in South-East secure the commitment of their academic staff.
This study examined Curbing Youth Restiveness in Imo State: The Strategic Role of Entrepreneurship Development. The descriptive survey research method was adopted and the study covered a population of 1396 people randomly selected from 20 autonomous communities from the two oil bearing Local Government Areas in Imo state, representatives of community based Non-governmental organizations that are involved in youth capacity development, security experts and scholars of sociology and rural development. Data was generated through a five point likert scale questionnaire from a sample of 311 respondents chosen using the Taro Yamene method. The hypotheses were tested with kruskawalis test (H) with the aid of the 23.0 version of statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) based on the 279 questionnaires validly filled and returned. The study concluded that the fight against youth restiveness and indeed all social vices in Imo state in particular and Nigeria at large must be reorganized to adopt proactive and preventive measures through the expansion of the nation's economic space for youth's inclusiveness, especially youths in rural areas whose access to functional and quality education is very limited. This can only be achieved if entrepreneurial development is giving active attention and not mere lip service. Furthermore, a comparative look at the results obtained (i.e EKCD 0.001 and AF 0.002) shows that sharing money to youths without giving them functional entrepreneurial skills does not create the needed sustainable route to curbing restiveness. It was recommended that to curb restiveness, youths empowerment should focus more on entrepreneurial knowledge creation and sharing than sharing of funds without tagging them to productive economic projects, school curriculum should be revised to embrace entrepreneurship development and that attention should be giving to vocational education through the establishment and adequate funding of vocational institutions that equips the youths with contemporary marketable entrepreneurial skills
this paper focused on developing corporate resilience in Nigerian SMEs: the role of management consultants in southern Nigeria. The paper adopted survey approach and the major instrument for data collection was a five point likert scale questionnaire. The data gathered was analyzed with t-test using the 20.0 version of the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) at 0.05 level of significance. The study covered a population of 512 persons which consists of 112 management consultants and 400 management staff of 60 selected SMEs from Enugu, Imo and Rivers-state. The researchers used the Yaro Yamene’s method to select a sample size of 225 persons. It was concluded in this paper that SMEs should develop resilience drive in their business approaches. The study found that due to dearth of resources and internal capabilities, there is need for SMEs to leverage on the services of management consultants. The p-value shows a 0.001 and 0.002 outputs, which reflects the significant contributions management consultants can make to the development of resilience in SMEs in turbulent times. This paper therefore recommends among others that state governments in southern Nigeria should provide business resilience targeted trainings to managers and owners of SMEs in order to prepare them with relevant and current knowledge that can guide their operations.
