Several epidemiological studies have evaluated the associations between coffee consumption and the risk of skin cancer; however, the results were not conclusive. This systematic review and meta-analysis of the cohort and case-control studies was carried out to determine the association between coffee intake and the risk of nonmelanoma skin cancer. Studies were identified by searching the PubMed and MEDLINE databases (to November 2015). Study-specific risk estimates were pooled under the random-effects model. We separately estimated the relative risk of the three conditions, for exposure to different doses of coffee consumption, kind of study design, and analysis restricted to the basal cell carcinoma type. The summary relative risks for nonmelanoma skin cancer were 0.96 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.92-0.99] for one cup of coffee, 0.92 (95% CI: 0.88-0.97) for one to two cups of coffee, 0.89 (95% CI: 0.86-0.93) for two to three cups of coffee, and 0.81 (95% CI: 0.77-0.85) for more than three cups of coffee per day, respectively. This meta-analysis suggested that caffeinated coffee might have chemopreventive effects against basal cell carcinoma dose dependently. However, other prospective studies are warranted to confirm these effects.
Background:This paper is a meta-analysis of the published data from in vitro studies to evaluate whether spontaneous apoptosis might be influenced by extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic fields (MFs).Materials and Methods:A comprehensive scientific literature search in electronic databases was conducted and studies covering the period 2000–2010 were selected. Then, published studies involving the desired topic were retrieved. The inclusion criteria were percentage of apoptosis in the cells exposed to 50–60 Hz ELF-MFs. The statistical analysis was performed by comprehensive meta-analysis version 2.Results:The summary measure of association (95% confidence interval) for all 18 effect estimated from 8 studies was 1.18 (1.15, 1.20). Heterogeneity among studies was found. There was no evidence of publication bias for the association between exposure to MF and apoptosis risk.Conclusion:Our meta-analysis provided conclusive data that ELF-MFs can increase apoptosis in cancer and normal cells. Furthermore, there is a possibly individual intensity and time range with maximum created effect according to window effect.
This study shows that ADRs occur more frequently in the pediatric group compared to adults. Therefore, optimum use of preventative strategy program may contribute to reducing the incidence and severity of ADRs especially in this group.
Diarrhea disease is one of the most important problem which leads to mortality and morbidity in under developing country. Pharmacists play an important role in providing health services to local communities for this common health issues. The purpose of our study was to assess diarrhea related attitude and knowledge of pharmacist in Iran. This study has been performed in Iranian Pharmacist Association congress in 2012. This is conducted as a questionnaire base, in 100 randomly Persian pharmacists, consists of questions about demographic data of pharmacists such as age, sex, college, year of study, attitude and knowledge of pharmacists on management of acute diarrhea. Pharmacists believed that it was important to ask about the age of patients (98%), initiation (98%) and frequency (95%) of diarrhea, blood (90%) in diarrhea, other symptoms such as fever or pain (95%) as well as recent foods consumption (91%). However there was a significance differences between male and female pharmacist about their diarrhea knowledge. Among pharmacists, 75% asked about the recent travel and 63% asked about other affected family members .Most pharmacists (78) dispensed ORS for the pediatric acute diarrhea. However, some believed in recommending ORS+antimotility drugs (9%), ORS+antismaspolitic (11%) and ORS+antibiotics (2 %). Although Iranian pharmacist were in a good attitude however the rule of periodic studies should highlighted.
